SPICE model delivers SiC MOSFET benefits
A new SPICE model introduced by Cree increases the design-in support for the C2M Series SiC MOSFET power devices and demonstrates the benefits of Cree SiC MOSFETs—including the new C2M0025120D device, which recently shattered the on-resistance barrier by delivering 1200V of blocking voltage with an on-resistance of only 25mOhms—in circuit simulations.
Photocouplers directly drive IGBTs & power MOSFETs
Suitable for applications such as home appliances, inverters, factory automation and control equipment, ToshibaElectronics Europe has introduced two photocouplers. The TLP5701 provides a peak output current of ±0.6A which makes it suited for low-power IGBTs and power MOSFETs, while the TLP5702's ±2.5A peak output current makes it suitable for driving medium-power devices.
Capacitors & resistors to be exhibited at electronica
Atelectronica 2014,Vishay Intertechnology will be exhibiting a range of it'scapacitors, resistors, inductors, diodes, power ICs, optoelectronics and power MOSFETs. The event takes place on the 11th to 14th November 2014 at the Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany, and the company will be in its main booth A5.142-143 and Automotive Innovation booth A6.A13-A15.
Two-part power elements are discounted in online shop
The PowerTwo Power Elements, designed forscrew-type technologies on circuit boards, are now available inWürth Elektronik'sOriginal Power Elements Online Shop. Thetwo-part power elements are press-fitted rather than soldered and can, therefore, be used at high temperatures. With the elements, stableconnection and mounting on the circuit board is enabled withoutany additional stress.
Infineon acquires International Rectifier for $3bn
Infineon has acquired International Rectifier for $3bn. The acquisition creates a behemoth in power management technology. Infineon expands its product portfolio, gets access to International Rectifier’s acclaimed Gallium Nitride on Silicon (GaN) process for power semiconductors, gains a higher profile in the US as well as a larger regional footprint particularly in Asia/Pacific.
Smart gate drive optocoupler improves isolated power supply
Improving isolated power supply and simplifying gate drive design, the ACPL-302J smart gate drive optocoupler has been announced by Avago Technologies. It features an integrated flyback controller for DC/DC converters and is suitable for driving IGBTs and power MOSFETs in industrial power inverters and motor drives.
Custom-made motor control
How FPGA technology is being used in industrial applications to provide performance with flexibility, and to lower system costs. By Stefano Zammattio, Altera.
Power semiconductor test platform meets JEDEC standard
An automated test system that meets the requirements of JEDEC standards and may be used for product development characterisation has been launched by Intepro. The system is a solution for reliability and extended lifetime testing of power semiconductors including IGBT, MOSFET, SCR, diode and bipolar parts and modules. The SemTest system is comprised of a test system, thermal oven and test software with optional chiller and cold plates.
Power Insight extends the lifetime of fibre optic cables
Amantys will demonstrate how the successful implementation of its Power Insight communications and monitoring protocol over fibre optic links can enhance the lifetime of plastic fibre optic cables by optimising the transceiver transit power. The demonstration will take place on the Amantys stand 523 at PCIM Asia from 17-19th June 2014.
Infineon Extends Life Time of IHM-B Modules: High Power Semiconductors Now Last Up to 11 Times Longer
In the future it will be possible to use IGBT High Power Modules (IHM) from Infineon Technologies AG even longer. More robust construction and greatly improved thermal conductivity behaviour increase the average life time in comparison to previous models by a factor of up to 11 under the same conditions of use. A major advantage here is that the electrical and mechanical parameters of the module remain the same in spite of the necessary changes i...
