Reducing losses in motor inverters
JunHo Lee, Fairchild Semiconductor looks at methods for reducing power switching energy loss and negative drive voltage stress in motor inverters.
Light-triggered thyristor features integrated protection
An optically triggered thyristor that can improve the reliability, lower the system cost and simplify the design of ultra-high-power applications has been introduced by Infineon Technologies. The 6” thyristor incorporates reliable optical triggering, eliminating the requirement for an external electrical trigger circuit. In addition, on-board safety features such as overvoltage protection, dv/dt protection and protection against forward vol...

GaN Systems is presenting a paper titled The Automotive Market Opportunity for GaN at the PCIM Europe Conference in Nuremberg. The presentation will be given by thePresident, GaN Systems,Girvan Pattersonon 20th May at 11.00am during a special session in the Brüssel Room chaired by Achim Scharf from Techmedia International.
IPMs for wind, solar & industrial drives on display at PCIM
At this year's PCIM 2015 trade show Infineon Technologies will launch a new Intelligent Power Module (IPM). The MIPAQ Pro provides an all-in-one solution for a wide spectrum of scalable and compact inverter designs to be implemented in wind, solar and industrial drives applications. The MIPAQ Pro is a fully qualified and tested IPM, integrating IGBTs, gate drivers, the heat sink, sensors, digital control electronics as well as digital bus communi...
Ultrafast diodes designed for use as anti-parallel diodes
Vishay Intertechnology has announced 600 and 650V FRED Pt Gen 4 Ultrafast recovery diodes optimised for high-frequency converters in power modules, motor drives, UPS, solar inverters and welding machine inverters. Offered as die in wafer form, The 28 'H' and 'U' series devices offer ultra-low forward voltage and reverse recovery charge to reduce losses and increase efficiency.
Industry's first 900V SiC MOSFET offers 65mΩ RDS(ON)
Cree has introduced its latest breakthrough in SiC power device technology: the industry’s first 900V MOSFET platform. Optimised for high frequency power electronics applications, including renewable energy inverters, EV charging systems and three-phase industrial power supplies, the 900V platform enables smaller and higher efficiency next-gen power conversion systems at cost parity with silicon-based solutions.
Manufacturer selects UPS system for manufacturing site
AEG Power Solutions has announced that it has been chosen by Emmeti SpA to provide UPS systems, as well as its MoniUPS remote monitoring system and associated service. Emmeti uses two Fluxpower HPI 400kVA UPS systems from AEG PS to protect plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems in its production facilities. Each UPS system is equipped with a manual bypass line.
Power electronics portfolio to be presented at PCIM
Cree has announced that it will exhibit, introduce a product, and speak at PCIM 2015, which will take place 19thto 21stMay 2015 in Nuremberg, Germany. Internationally recognised as a foremost power electronics conference and exhibition, PCIM addresses recent developments in power semiconductors, passive components, thermal management, energy storage, sensors, materials and systems.
Leadless thermistor dies use IGBT-style mounting
Vishay has introduced two leadless NTC thermistor dies, contacted on the top and bottom, that provide designers with the same mounting options as IGBT semiconductors. Featuring gold metallisation, theNTCC300E4supports gold wire bonding and conductive adhesive gluing, while theNTCC200E4with silver metallisation supports aluminium wire bonding and is compatible with reflow soldering and nano-silver paste sintering.
