Bomb squad robot can see inside suitcases
Unattended bags are often cause for much concern, with railways and airports on high alert for abandoned luggage. This luggage proves a significant problem for the emergency services, who have to assume that they may contain explosive materials. Now, a remote-controlled robot is set to scan abandoned baggage in order to make this job easier.

The Full Service Foundry division of ams has announced its fast and cost-efficient IC prototyping service, known as Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) or shuttle run, with an updated schedule for 2016. The prototyping service, which combines several designs from different customers onto a single wafer, offers significant cost advantages for foundry customers as the costs for wafers and masks are shared among a number of different shuttle participants.
Hardware, software solutions drive OTA test system
An Over-The-Air (OTA) wave field synthesis system for test and certification of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receivers was presented by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft at it’s IIS Facility for Over the Air Research and Testing (FORTE) in Ilmenau. The innovative and complex OTA test system is mainly based on Hardware and Software solutions from IZT, including powerful RF receivers and high performance signal generators.

Study finds break-even point for EVs
Under which conditions are EVs less expensive than diesel vehicles? What are the positive environmental effects? And what about their acceptance by users and reliability in practice? The RheinMobil project, co-ordinated by KIT, answers these questions in a study of a fleet test covering two and a half years of operation with 300,000 electrically driven kilometers. The results were presented at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
