Measuring just 0.6x0.35x0.35mm, AVX has claimed that the sub-millimetre 0201 TACmicrochip series is the world’s smallest and lowest profile tantalum capacitor. The 0201 E case TACmicrochip capacitors provide standard tantalum technology benefits, including inherent immunity to piezoelectric noise, as well as higher stability, higher reliability and higher temperature performance than comparable MLCCs.

A series of automotive varistors, which exhibit a low leakage current of less than 1µA at 32VDC, 25°C, has been released by AVX. Tested, qualified and specified at 150°C, the CANATL varistors are particularly suitable for use in high temperature underhood automotive applications, such as transmission control units, brake control modules, data lines and bus interface units.

Due to the success of two pilot programmes which are part of Solutions for Hope, an integrated civil and supply chain initiative to source conflict-free tantalum from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), partners, including AVX, have announced that they are expanding the scale, scope and geographical reach of the programme to increase the global supply of conflict-free minerals responsibly sourced from high risk areas. 

Suited for use as across-the-line capacitors, EMI filters and spark-killer circuits in power and RF applications, AVX has announced a series of AC film capacitors. The FV series metallised polypropylene film capacitors feature self-healing properties, high moisture resistance, high tolerance for over voltage stress and excellent active and passive flame resistant capabilities.

A series of high CV wet tantalum capacitors, which achieve the ultra-high volumetric capacitance densities of aqueous supercapacitors, while addressing their temperature and soldering limitations, has been introduced by AVX. The TWD DCUltraMax capacitors are developed using a design process based on high CV tantalum powders, allowing them to achieve high DC capacitance values.

AVX has released a series of fused high CV tantalum SMD chip capacitors with undertab terminations. The F98-AS1 series capacitors feature a proprietary lead-frame-less structure with precise dimensions and low stress packaging, an internal thin film fuse that protects against short circuits, and well-established undertab termination technology, which enables high volumetric efficiency and high PCB assembly density.

Designed for AC filtering in power converters, UPS systems, solar and wind inverters and motor drives, a series of medium power film capacitors has been introduced by AVX. The FLA series capacitors exhibit high-reliability, single-phase performance and feature self-healing technology and an internal overpressure disconnector device.

Expanding its F38 series, AVX has introduced a CV polymer tantalum capacitor claimed to be the smallest and highest in the industry. The 6.3V, 47μF device is packaged in a miniature 0603 M case with an ultra-low 0.9mm profile. Compared to the next smallest polymer tantalum capacitor with equivalent CV, which is packaged in a 0805 case with a 1.0mm profile, the new device is 50% smaller.

Extending its high temperature SMX series stacked SMPS MLCCs, AVX has added 25V ratings in 3-5 case sizes and 500V ratings in 1-6 case sizes. Claimed to provide significant advantages over typical MIL-qualified MLCCs (rated to 125°C) and comparable wet tantalum capacitors, the capacitors are designed for use in high temperature, harsh environment applications up to 200°C.
