Space-level X7R base capacitors approved for US military use
AVX has announced that, after several years of extensive testing, NASA has approved its space-level X7R Base Metal Electrode (BME) MLCCs for use in US military and aerospace applications under the criteria of the S-311-P-838 specification.
Capacitors withstand 200°C operation for 2,000 hours
Designed for use in high temperature avionics, industrial, down-hole and military applications, AVX has introduced a series of wet tantalum capacitors designed for use at +200°C, many of which are capable of up to 2,000 hours of operation with applicable derating. The TWA-Y series delivers high reliability, high temperature and long lifetime performance, exhibiting stable electrical parameters over a temperature range from -55 to +200°C.
MLCCs achieve full space qualification
AVX has announced that, after several years of extensive testing, its space-level X7R Base Metal Electrode (BME) MLCCs have achieved the European Space Association’s (ESA) Qualified Parts List (QPL) status under the criteria of the European Space Components Coordination’s (ESCC) 3009/041 specification, making them the first X7R BME MLCCs fully qualified for use in European and American space applications.

PTH IDC connector targets smart grid applications
AVX has added a single contact, Wire-To-Board (WTB) IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) with PTH (Plated Through Hole) terminations to its 9176 series. The connector provides a gas-tight connection to the PCB for long-term reliability as well as preassembled strain relief caps with through-wire or end-stop configurations for maximum flexibility.

A series of high voltage, automotive grade, MLC, radial-leaded capacitors has been introduced by AVX. A Q 01005 MLCC, claimed to exhibit the world’s highest Q value for UHF band applications, has been introduced by AVX. The CU10 01005, which is part of the company’s CU series of low ESR C0G (NP0) MLCCs, exhibits typical Q values of 290 at 1GHz for a 4pF capacitance.

SMD tantalum capacitors rated to 10,000 hours at 200°C
AVX has extended the lifespan of its THH 230°C hermetic series high temperature SMD tantalum capacitors to 10,000 hours at 200°C and 50% derating. Providing high capacitance values from 22 to 100µF, the capacitors feature the highest temperature ratings of any SMD tantalum capacitor series available on the market: -55 to +230°C for 9/CTC-21D case components and -55 to +215°C for I case components.
Tantalum polymer chip capacitors rated for 10,000 hours
AVX has announced that its TCH Series hermetically sealed tantalum polymer chip capacitors, developed with the European Space Agency (ESA) for aerospace, defence and other high-reliability applications, are now rated for extended lifespans of up to 10,000 hours. The capacitors are sealed in ceramic cases filled with inert gases to eliminate material and performance degradation resulting from exposure to high temperature and humidity.

Capacitor exhibits high CV performance in a thin package
The 1206-06 D case TACmicrochip capacitor, which is claimed to be the world’s smallest, has been released by AVX. Measuring 3.4x1.8x0.6mm, the 47μF 8V device is smaller than the company’s 1206 V case capacitor. Alongside immunity to piezoelectric noise, and higher stability, reliability and temperature performance than comparable MLCCs, the capacitor exhibits high CV performance in a thin package.
Capacitors are rated for capacitance values of 100pF-15µF
Rated for 1,000-5,000V and capacitance values spanning 100pF to 15µF, the RV series of DIP-leaded stacked SMPS capacitors has been released by AVX. The capacitors are available in three dielectrics: C0G, N1500 and X7R, and in six case sizes measuring 3.04-16.51mm in height.

Combining circuit protection and EMI/RFI attenuation functions in a single device, the VR20 varistors have been released by AVX. The TransGuard automotive devices are based on the company’s patented multilayer varistor technology, which provides bi-directional transient voltage protection in the on-state and EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state.
