Smarter than the competition
The market requires highest flexibility from electronics manufacturers. Placement speed not only influences production cost but also the networking, integration, simulation capabilities and machine capacities. SMART Solution from Essemtec is the world’s first modular system that enables complete optimization of SMT production. By Adrian Kühnis, Azular GmbH, Switzerland.
UMC and SuVolta join together to develop 28nm Low-Power Process Technology
United Microelectronics and SuVolta reveal their joint technology development of a 28nm process that integrates SuVolta's Deeply Depleted ChannelTM transistor technology into UMC's 28nm High-K Metal Gate high-performance mobile process. SuVolta and UMC are working together to take advantage of implementing DDC transistor technology to reduce leakage power and improve SRAM low-voltage performance.
Cree SiC MOSFETs offer 21% reduction in power losses for Delta Elektronika
Cree has today revealed that its newly expanded portfolio of 1200 V SiC MOSFETs are being incorporated into the latest advanced power supplies from Delta Elektronika. Delta Elektronika demonstrated a 21 percent decrease in overall power supply losses and a reduction in component count by up to 45 percent when compared to power supply products using traditional silicon technology.
New DC-DC controller IC meets low power demands
Torex Semiconductor have today introduced a new a step-down DC-DC controller IC designed specifically for applications that require high efficiency and low power consumption. The XC9252 operates from inputs up to 30V and requires only 30µA when operating in PFM mode under no load conditions. This helps meet the low power consumption demanded by an increasing number of applications.
PCIM 2013 Digest
Couldn’t get to Nuremberg in time for this spring’s PCIM (power control, intelligent motion) exhibition? Here’s a digested summary of the most compelling new products and other interesting developments from the show. Sally Ward-Foxton rounds up the most interesting MOSFETs, excellent IGBTs and the best of the rest from PCIM 2013.
Torex introduce 18V synchronous PWM buck DC-DC converter
Torex Semiconductor has today introduced a new series of synchronous step-down DC-DC converters. Featuring two integrated N-ch driver Transistors and a bootstrap configuration, the new XC9248 series has an input voltage range from 4.5V to 18V and the maximum output current is 2.2A. The XC9248 utilises a fixed PWM control method for high efficiency which also generates low levels of output ripple.
New Photocoupler Provides High Breakdown Voltage And Current Amplification Over Extended Temperature Range
Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced a new photocoupler for use with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), I/O interface boards and home appliances. With a current transfer ratio of 1000% (min) and a minimum rated isolation voltage of 3750Vrms the TLP187 is ideal for programmable controllers that utilise 100VDC output modules.
Mainstream in mass prodcuing smartphones' switches from Soitec's RF SOI
Soitec reveals at the Semicon West trade show that its silicon-on-insulator technologies are now mainstream for manufacturing switches and antenna-tuners, key RF components used in all cell phones and tablet computers. According to the industry research firm Yole Développement, more than 65 percent of substrates used in fabricating switches for handsets are SOI based, showing the massive adoption of RF SOI for this booming electronic market expe...
UC Berkley's research team reveal the Paper-thin e-skin
UC Berkley's research team led by Ali Javey, associate professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences, has created the first user-interactive sensor network on flexible plastic. The new electronic skin, or e-skin, responds to touch by instantly lighting up. The more intense the pressure, the brighter the light it emits.
700V Gate Driver launched by IXYS
IXYS launch the IX2113 High and Low Side Gate Driver IC with high voltage IC that can drive MOSFETs and IGBTs that operate up to 600V. Both the high side and low side outputs feature integrated power DMOS transistors, each capable of sourcing and sinking over 2A of gate drive current.
