GaN transistors suit electronic warfare & battlefield comms
Expanding its portfolio of broadband GaN RF power transistors for electronic warfare and battlefield radio applications, NXP Semiconductors has announced six driver or final-stage amplifiers that have frequency coverage as broad as 1 to 3,000MHz.
Microsemi unveils 15 devices at IMS 2016
Microsemi has announced that it will feature 15 products from its RF, millimetre wave ICs, MMICs, ultra-low power sub-GHz transceivers and high performance WLAN monolithic RFICs portfolio at IMS 2016, currently on at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Spanning the DC to 140GHz frequency range, these devices build upon Microsemi’s rich history in RF, microwave and MMW solutions for the defence, communications, instrumentation, ...
Power electronics for electric vehicles
At first it seems ridiculous that IDTechEx forecasts a huge growth in the power electronics business for electric vehicles. Yes, there is tending to be two motors per car or larger vehicle not one now and that means many more motor controllers. Yes, the market is growing for the vehicles and each car or larger vehicle has a charger and a battery management system on board, both being power electronics but that alone is insufficient to create the ...
2W DC/DC converters designed to power SiC MOSFETs
To meet the tough requirements of next-gen MOSFETs, RECOM has introduced two 2W DC/DC converter series designed to power SiC MOSFETs. One of the challenges of driving SiC MOSFETs is the high frequency and high voltage at which they are switched. High potentials between the control and power side of a SiC MOSFET application can wear down isolation barriers, eventually causing them to fail.
SiGe up/down converters head to IMS 2016
A trio of companies - Richardson RFPD, Analog Devices and New Edge Signal Solutions – have combined to develop digital front-end (DFE) radio solutions, including new wideband (6-24 GHz) SiGe up/down converters (ADRF6780, ADRF6880) and transceivers. They will demonstrate the solutions at the 2016 IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in San Francisco (May 24-26).
Microsemi showcases intelligent power solutions at PCIM 2016
Microsemi Corporation is participating in the PCIM Europe conference and exhibition May 10-12th, 2016 at the Nuremberg Messe in Nuremberg, Germany. Microsemi is showcasing its expertise in power management solutions for a variety of vertical market applications in aerospace, automotive, industrial, defense and medical markets.
The winners of the PCIM Europe 2016 Best Paper have been announced
The Best Paper and three Young Engineer Award winners were honoured during the opening ceremony of the PCIM Europe Conference 2016. Quality of the content, topicality and daily business practice were the factors that convinced the PCIM Europe conference directors in the selection of this year's winning entries from more than 340 high quality papers that were submitted.
All-SiC power module achieves efficiencies over 98%
Wolfspeed, a Cree company, has introduced a high-performance 62mm power module, using the company's second generation SiC to produce all SiC power modules, claimed to enable unprecedented efficiency and power density for converters, inverters, motor drives, industrial electronics and EV systems.
Is the Internet of Things living up to expectations?
Steve Rogerson looks at how the Internet of Things (IoT) hype is turning into reality.Analysts seem to be trying to outdo each other in their predictions for what will happen with the so-called Internet of Things (IoT).
Using UV radiation to clean water without chemicals
Water is a resource and is used for cooling or as a solvent. Water is also indispensable in industrial production. Environmentally compatible processing of water now is subject of the 'Eco-UV' research project funded by the EU with €3.9m under the 'Horizon 2020' programme. Within the framework of the project, KIT engineers plan to develop efficient UV emitters and long-lived electronic systems.
