TI leads analogue IC suppliers with 18% marketshare
The 2015 analogue market grew 2% to $47.0bn. Combined sales of general-purpose analogue products (amplifiers/comparators, interface, power management and signal conversion devices) increased 2% to $19.1bn and sales of application-specific analogue devices also improved 2% to $27.9bn. Among analogue IC products, the market for signal conversion devices showed the largest increase in 2015, growing 14% to $2.9bn.
Discrete IGBT provides high energy efficiency & reliability
Infineon Technologies has introduced a discrete 600V TRENCHSTOP Performance IGBT which provides high energy efficiency and reliability at a competitive price point for applications such as air conditioning, PV inverters, drives and UPS. Based on Infineon’s TRENCHSTOP technology, the IGBT is optimised for hard switching topologies working at frequencies of up to 30kHz.
Accelerate automotive system software development
Synopsys has announced the addition of new models of Bosch timer and in-car communication IP for GTM, M_CAN and ERAY peripherals in its Virtualizer Development Kits (VDKs). VDKs are software development kits using a virtual prototype as the embedded target to enable software development, integration and test months before physical hardware is available.
TO-220 FullPAK Wide Creepage package eliminates workarounds
Infineon Technologies has introduced the TO-220 FullPAK Wide Creepage package, offered for the 600V CoolMOS CE MOSFETs which target a broad range of low power consumer applications. This package features an improved creepage and has been developed to meet the demanding requirements of open frame power supplies where pollution might lead to arcing failures of applications.
IC saves space & reduces parts count for LED dimming
Infineon's LED lighting interface IC allows designers to replace many of the discrete components used in conventional dimming schemes with a single device. Therefore, the compact and highly integrated CDM10V can reduce the component count and PCB space needed for dimming circuitry in LED lighting applications by up to 70%.
Debug engine search function enables rapid trace data analysis
With highly complex automotive microcontrollers ‒ such as Infineon’s AURIX family or the PowerArchitecture-based SPC58E series from STMicroelectronics ‒ very large amounts of trace data accrue in a very short period of time, especially when the data are recorded through a high bandwidth trace interface like Aurora.
Infineon increases safety & efficiency in trucks
Radar systems in trucks and construction vehicles play an important role in increasing the safety of road transport. Because they monitor blind spots, alert drivers if they come too close to other road users and automatically initiate the braking process in case of emergency. Radar systems make it safe to drive in columns with short following distances.
Packaging improves thermal performance
The SOT-223 package allows for a 10% cost reduction, in comparison to DPAK, writes Rene Mente, Infineon Technologies. The SOT-223 is a direct pin-to-pin replacement for DPAK designs with slightly reduced thermal behaviour in comparison to DPAK.
Keeping an eye on the watchers
Steve Rogerson reports from last month’s Autotronics automotive electronics show in Taipei.Taiwan watches. It’s what it does best. For years in the consumer electronics space, it has watched what everyone else has been doing and then done the same, but better, cheaper or often both. This ability, which has made it one of the high-tech hubs of the world, is now moving full scale into the automotive space.
TI leads industrial semiconductor vendor share ranking in 2015
According to the latest analysis by Semicast Research, Texas Instruments was the leading vendor of semiconductors to the industrial sector in 2015, ahead of Infineon Technologies. Intel passed STMicroelectronics to become the third largest vendor following the acquisition of Altera, with Renesas Electronics completing the top five.
