New apprentice training hub to boost product innovation
As part of the continued drive to address the skills gap within the engineering sector, Harwin has formally opened its Apprentice Training Hub, along with a new R&D Centre. Located at the company’s Portsmouth headquarters, construction and kitting out of the unit that will house both these operations has been completed and they are now ready to be staffed.
Ready-made cable assemblies for datamate connectors
In order to provide customers with simple plug-and-play solutions, Harwin has introduced a range of off-the-shelf cable assemblies to accompany its popular Datamate series of high reliability connector components. Supplied in single- or double-ended format, with a set cable length of 150mm.
Ultra-compact shield clips for space-constrained designs
Covering a surface area of just 2.3x1.2mm and with a two millimetre height, Harwin’s S0911-46R shield can clip is the smallest surface mount EMI/RFI shield clip currently available on the market. Consequently it is much better at addressing the demands being set by the latest generation of high-density electronic systems.
Supporting ongoing robotic innovation
Exciting new opportunities for greater proliferation of robotics in modern society are emerging all the time. Robots are now capable of performing a wide array of different tasks. They are revolutionising the factory floor by dramatically boosting production throughput. In the form of collaborative robots (or cobots), they can work directly alongside humans in manufacturing facilities, as well as helping with the education of our children and pro...
High contact density connectors in nanosatellite network
Though most of us now live in the ‘Connected Age’, it must be conceded that not everyone is quite so lucky. There are still certain areas of the planet which are simply too sparsely inhabited for it to be economically viable to justify the roll-out of terrestrially-oriented communication infrastructure – such as cellular base stations or WiFi hotspots. By Giorgio Potenza, Strategic Market Manager, Avionics Defence & Space, ...
Harwin's T-Contact enters distribution network
Following the release of its narrow-pitch T-Contact offering last year, Harwin has now secured supply chain support from leading distributors Digi-Key, Mouser and TTI. Intended for incorporation into Harwin’s flagship Datamate series, each T-Contact makes use of an innovative 6-finger mechanical design, which has been machined out of a single piece of Beryllium Copper.
Connectors and cable assemblies feature 10A current capacity
In keeping with the company’s core objective of providing elevated levels of performance in the most compact of components, Harwin’s expansive M300 family comprises robust cable-to-board, board-to-board and cable-to-cable power connectors. Available in 3, 6 and 10 contact formats, these units can be accompanied by a variety of cable assembly options (with lengths from 150 to 450mm supplied).
Circular sensor connector stays connected in rugged situations
An interconnect solution with the capacity to cope even in the most challenging of operational environments has been introduced by Harwin. The circular sensor connector has a current rating of 2A per contact. The members of the Vivern family come in a 10-contact 1.45mm pitch format and have an insulation resistance of over 1GΩ.
Industrial connectors withstand heavy vibrations, shocks
Capable of withstanding a 10G vibrational force for a period of 6 hours, the components in Harwin’s new M225 connector series are intended for industrial deployment. These compact, high performance cable-to-board units feature a robust construction for prolonged operational lifespan, thanks to their glass-reinforced poly-phenylene sulphide (PPS) enclosures, with a 100MΩ minimum insulation resistance ensuring continued signal integrity...
Strong commercial performance recognised with award
In recognition of the strong commercial performance that has been attained and the proactivity shown by its staff at all times, Harwin has presented valued distribution partner Avnet Abacus with its annual Sales Excellence Award.
Reverse fix options added to lightweight connectors
Customers continue to pursue connector makers for products that are smaller, lighter without any compromises in performance. So Harwin has responded by extending the scope of its Gecko Screw-Lok (Gecko-SL) 1.25mm pitch connector solutions – which are mainly targeted at avionics, space, military and autosport deployment.
Durable board-to-board connectors increasing reliability
It has been announced that Archer Kontrol from Harwin, is a range of compact board-to-board 1.27mm pitch connectors, offering designers a robust and flexible connection choice for a wide scope of industrial and other related applications.
UAVs and UGVs: not just pie in the sky
Though consumer-level drones have received a lot of bad press in recent times - near misses with aircraft, incidents where members of the public have been injured and flying contraband into prisons - within the defence sector, the high end versions of this technology has the potential to save lives. By Giorgio Potenza, Strategic Market Manager for High-Rel Systems, Harwin.
Robust three-point PCB sockets announced
High-reliability connector supplier Harwin has announced further additions to its Sycamore Contact product offering. While this series was initially capable of accommodating one and 1.5mm diameter contact pins, it now covers pin sizes from 0.80 to 1.90mm.
3-point PCB socket series covers pin sizes from 0.80 to 1.90mm
Harwin has announced further additions to its Sycamore Contact product offering. While this series was initially capable of accommodating 1mm and 1.5mm diameter contact pins, it now covers pin sizes from 0.80 to 1.90mm. There are a wide variety of scenarios where electronic devices/modules will require replacement over time (such as depleted gas sensors or worn-out energy harvesting transducers).
Key considerations when selecting a connector solution
The electronics industry never stands still - trends develop and change, technologies emerge and improve and new applications bring new requirements and challenges. While this understandably has an impact on the electronics, it also has a significant impact on connector technology needed to support it.
Highly optimised connector addresses space issues on PCBs
Continuing to extend the breadth of its interconnect solutions, Harwin has announced the latest addition to the M40 series. With phosphor bronze contacts that are rated for currents of up to 1A, these lightweight, low profile 1mm pitch units are the smallest in the company’s portfolio of cable-to-board connectors. They have been developed specifically to attend to the needs of modern electronic designs, where densely populated PCBs are...
Assent Compliance assists in assuring supply chain integrity
In order to further strengthen its CSR and ensure that all due diligence measures are taken when sourcing raw materials, Harwin has appointed Ottawa-based regulatory software and services firm Assent Compliance. The team at Assent will be assisting with Harwin’s ongoing activities relating to materials legislation/restrictions and other global directives.
High density connectors meet industrial environment demands
The new Archer Kontrol family of board-to-board connectors from Harwin present design engineers with highly robust, as well as flexible, interconnect solutions that address a broad spectrum of different industrial tasks. Covering 12-80 contact pin formats, these compact 1.27mm pitch connectors have a current rating of 1.2A per contact.
Pitch connectors support elevated currents of 8.5A
A new female contact for its Datamate connectors that enables significant increases in power delivery levels to be realised has been introduced by Harwin. Utilising a proprietary six-finger design which is machined from a single piece of beryllium copper, the T-Contact raises the current capacity on compact 2mm pitch interconnection systems, with up to 8.5A per contact being supported.
