MCU combines graphic display & functional safety
Renesas hasannounced the RH850/D1x Series of 32-bit automotive MCUs specialised for use in instrument clusters that deliver easy-to-access information to support a safer and rich driving experience. The connected car generates a significant amount of information , which must be transmitted to the driver in an easy-to-understand and easy-to-read manner, shown as graphics.
Renesas awards Global Platinum status to SEGGER
Renesas has awarded the status of Global Platinum Alliance Partner to SEGGER in recognition of the companies long-term strategic relationship. SEGGER provides proven RTOS and middleware, RTOS-aware debugging capabilities and fast production tools, all supporting a wide range of Renesas MCUs, MPUs and application-specific devices.
Kit demonstrates four common security/fire detectors
Renesas has announced the availability of its Detect it! solution kit. The Detect it! kit is designed for detector applications and provides ready to use demonstrators for the most typical detectors used in security and fire protection systems. Detect it! has four demonstrator hardware boards, a motion detector, smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector and a glass-break detector.
What goes around
The demand for more sophisticated electronic industrial motor control is growing. Steve Rogerson looks at the drivers and the difficulties facing developers.
Low power MCUs form core of solution kit
The Detect it! solution kit from Renesas Electronics Europe, based on the new RL78/I1D microcontroller group, is designed for detector applications and provides ready to use demonstrators for the most typical detectors used in security and fire protection systems. The Detect it! solution kit is available at distributor Rutronik.
NXP & Freescale merger set to dominate OE automotive sector
According to the latest analysis by Semicast Research, Renesas Electronics was the leading vendor of semiconductors to the OE automotive sector in 2014, ahead of Infineon Technologies. STMicroelectronics retained its position as third largest vendor, with Freescale fourth and NXP fifth. Semicast estimates that revenues for OE automotive semiconductors totalled $29.4bn in 2014.
Updated toolset supports Renesas' RH850 architecture
Altium has announced the latest release of its TASKING C compiler suite for the RH850 architecture from Renesas Electronics. v2.2r1 supports RH850 MCU variants (RH850/C1x, RH850/D1x, RH850/E1x, RH850/P1x and RH850/R1x), code optimisation improvements and an integrated on-chip debugger. Altium will support future RH850 variants, including specialised solutions for new on-chip modules.
Europe's first MCU Car Rally for students
At embedded world 2015, Renesas Electronics Europe will announce the final of its MCU Car Rally competition for university students.Almost 100 students across 17 teams from universities and technical colleges all over Europe have spent the past year developing a functioning model racing car based on electronic components and software from Renesas, competing for prizes including racing experiences, tablets and cash vouchers.
2.4GHz radio chip features reduced supply voltage & power consumption
At the 2015 International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), Imec, Holst Centre and Renesas presented an ultra-low power 2.4GHz short range radio compliant with BLE and IEEE802.15.4 (ZigBee). Implemented in 40nm CMOS, the radio achieves a supply voltage reduced by 20%, power consumptionreduced by 25%and chip areareduced by 35%, as compared to the previous 90nm RF front-end design.
RTOS now supports Renesas’ R-Car E2 SoCs
Green Hills Software has announced that its INTEGRITY RTOS now supports Renesas Electronics’ R-Car E2 SoC devices. By targeting the Integrated Cockpit with the addition of the R-Car E2, Green Hills Software continues its commitment to support Renesas’ entire R-Car series of processors.
