Radiation Hardened DC-DC Converters for Space RF Equipment
International Rectifier has today introduced the radiation hardened ML Series dual output DC-DC power converter platform designed for RF communication equipment such as low noise amplifiers, receivers and frequency converters used onboard satellites. IR’s ML Series features output sequencing typically required by RF-circuitries and isolated telemetry/telecommand for compliant satellite telemetry/telecommand systems without the need for addition...
Intelligent Sensor by Continental Diminishes Battery-Related Breakdowns
In 2012, according to the ADAC breakdown statistics, the roadside-assistance crews of German automobile club ADAC had to respond 2.6 million times to one of the most nerve-wracking experiences that can befall a motorist – a breakdown. In one third of those cases – about 900,000 times – motorists summoned the ADAC because they could not start their cars. The reason: a dead or defective battery, making the battery the single most common cause...
u-blox introduces high-performance parallel GPS/GLONASS positioning module
U-blox introduces the surface-mount MAX-M5Q, a compact satellite positioning module that supports US GPS, Russian GLONASS as well as Japanese QZSS satellite GNSS systems. High-performance GPS/GLONASS parallel operation is also supported to enhance positioning speed and accuracy.
MSC now offers the new L26 multi-GNSS module from Quectel.
The new L26 module from MSC features ultra low power consumption of only 21 mA in tracking mode/29 mA in acquisition mode and a high sensitivity of -165 dBm in tracking operation/-148 dBm in acquisition operation.
Reliability Just Got Smaller
Connectors must ensure signal integrity even when the environment is far from benign; great forces of shock and vibration, and extremes of temperature may be experienced. Wendy Jane Bourne, Technical & Marketing Engineer with Harwin, explores these strains on high reliability connectors in this article from ES Design magazine.
Agilent Enhance MXG And EXG X-Series Vector Signal Generators
Agilent Technologies has announced several key enhancements to its high-performance MXG and cost-effective EXG X-Series vector signal generators. The enhancements are designed to improve measurement accuracy, accelerate research and development, and provide in-depth signal simulation for even the most comprehensive receiver verification.

ST Satellite-Tracking Chips Make A Mark On Europe’s Navigation System Roadmap
STMicroelectronics announce that its Teseo II single-chip satellite-tracking ICs were successful in the very first ground location test using Europe’s own independent navigation system, Galileo. The tests were conducted in collaboration with the European Space Agency. Last month, the first position fix of longitude, latitude and altitude using the four Galileo satellites currently in orbit was performed by the ESA at its Technology Centre in th...
Peregrine UltraCMOS RFICs Enable Communication For Globalstar Communication Satellites
Peregrine Semiconductor announce that the six Globalstar mobile communication satellites, launched into orbit on February 6, have its UltraCMOS Phase Locked Loop frequency synthesizer and prescaler devices designed in. Built by Thales Alenia Space in France, the low-Earth orbit satellites transmit audio and data communications for Globalstar’s mobile voice and data customers worldwide.
