IC supports BeiDou, GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and QZSS
The Teseo III product family from STMicroelectronics is a single-chip standalone positioning IC which can receive signals from multiple satellite navigation systems, including the Chinese BeiDou, the US GPS, the European Galileo, Russia’s GLONASS and Japan’s QZSS. The satellite-tracking IC is suitable for applications including in-car navigation systems, telematics systems, portable, marine, and fitness.
GNSS modules upgraded with 8th-Gen chip technology
The MAX, NEO and LEA GNSS modules from u-blox are now avilable in a multi-constellation positioning platform, designated the u‑blox M8. The module series provides a range of features including antenna management, integrated filters, data logging, crystal or TCXO, and rich set of interfaces.
ODU satellite chipset expands reach for operators
An Outdoor Unit (ODU) satellite chipset that enables operators to deliver a wider range of services to more subscribers has been announced by Broadcom. Delivery of a wider range of services is achieved without additional satellite dish installations. Broadcom's BCM4551 offers a higher level of integration, while consuming less power than the previous generation chipset, and enables direct sampling of low-noise block outputs across worldwide ODU s...
Riding on the back of millimetre waves
Of all the wavelengths in the spectrum used for wireless data transmission, perhaps the least well known is the millimetre wave band. However, it is precisely this band (and the continuous bandwidth it provides) that enables wireless data transmission at speeds and bandwidth that compare to the high quality of fibre optic communication systems.
GNSS positioning module achieves -160dBm sensitivity
A standalone GNSS positioning module introduced by Alpha Micro Components is claimed to be the smallest on the market. The EVA-7M from u-blox is designed for high volume consumer and low- end commercial cost- and space-sensitive applications. The highly integrated 7 x 7 x 1.1mm LGA module comprises all necessary components, including crystal and passives. Users need only add an antenna for instant global positioning capability.
GNSS Chip simultaneously supports GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS and BeiDou
Broadcom has annoucned the launch of a new Global Navigation Satellite System chip. Designated the BCM47531, it can simultaneously generate positioning data from five satellite constellations (GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS and BeiDou). By supporting the BeiDou constellation, the BCM47531 GNSS chip increases the number of satellites available to a smartphone, enhancing navigation accuracy, particularly in urban settings.
Gecko connectors to be used on CubeSat miniature satellites
Harwin's Gecko family of high performance connectors will be used on CubeSat miniature satellites. The CubeSat miniature satellites are being designed by Surrey Space Centre as part of the international QB50 programme led by the von Karman Institute, Belgium.
Precision timing GNSS module for cellular networks
The LEA-M8F is a new precision timing GNSS module which has been introduced by u-blox. Generating a precise 30.72 MHz reference clock, the compact and surface mount GNSS module is ideal for synchronizing industrial data and communication systems such as small, femto and macro-cell mobile networks.
Magnetometer to expand understanding of Earth’s magnetic field
CEA-Leti has revealed that its next-generation magnetometer technology wastoday launched into space on board the European Space Agency’s three Swarm satellites. Collecting data over a four-year period, this mission will make it possible to distinguish between the various sources of the magnetic field (the Earth’s core, mantle, crust and oceans, as well as the ionosphere and magnetosphere) for the first time.
BeiDou/Compass capability added to vector signal generator
Rohde & Schwarz ‘s R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator now has BeiDou/Compass capability in its integrated GNSS simulator. With this option the simulator now covers the BeiDou standard as well as the GPS, Galileo and Glonass satellite navigation systems. With this option the simulator now covers the BeiDou standard as well as the GPS, Galileo and Glonass satellite navigation systems.
