IAR Systems introduces an updated version of the compiler and debugger toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas RL78. The new version extends code quality control possibilities through enhanced static analysis as well as support for the latest RL78 devices.
TI leads analogue IC suppliers with 18% marketshare
The 2015 analogue market grew 2% to $47.0bn. Combined sales of general-purpose analogue products (amplifiers/comparators, interface, power management and signal conversion devices) increased 2% to $19.1bn and sales of application-specific analogue devices also improved 2% to $27.9bn. Among analogue IC products, the market for signal conversion devices showed the largest increase in 2015, growing 14% to $2.9bn.
Accelerate automotive system software development
Synopsys has announced the addition of new models of Bosch timer and in-car communication IP for GTM, M_CAN and ERAY peripherals in its Virtualizer Development Kits (VDKs). VDKs are software development kits using a virtual prototype as the embedded target to enable software development, integration and test months before physical hardware is available.
A training collaboration for Renesas Synergy
Renesas Electronics Europe has agreed to collaborate with MicroConsult on the provision of customer training courses for the Renesas Synergy Platform.
Getting a handle on embedded software development costs
Today’s embedded applications are requiring a staggering amount of functionality. Wireless connectivity, intuitive user interfaces, complex functional algorithms, plus an infrastructure suitable for managing these tasks simultaneously are all time consuming to develop, difficult to integrate, and almost impossible to thoroughly test. This means that the true software development costs of a product can no longer be extrapolated from the cost...
Strong cables, language problems and that dreaded day
Steve Rogerson looks at some of the recent news that may have missed the front page.British start-up Echo has designed a cable for an iPhone that is stronger than the one Apple provides. In fact, so strong is it that it can tow a car, and they sent a video to prove it. My question is why anybody would want a mobile phone cable that strong. Then again, I suppose it might come in handy if you break down somewhere remote. The company is running a cr...
Semiconductor capex slow in 2016
Analysis from consultancy firm Semiconductor Intelligence has shown that the outlook for semiconductor capital expenditures (capex) in 2016 is weak. Gartner’s January 2016 forecast called for a decline of 4.7%. IC Insights in February projected a 0.8% decline. The table below shows the Gartner forecast along with the capex forecasts from the top three spenders (Intel, Samsung and TSMC) which account for about half of total industry capex.
TI leads industrial semiconductor vendor share ranking in 2015
According to the latest analysis by Semicast Research, Texas Instruments was the leading vendor of semiconductors to the industrial sector in 2015, ahead of Infineon Technologies. Intel passed STMicroelectronics to become the third largest vendor following the acquisition of Altera, with Renesas Electronics completing the top five.
