Sensor supplier signs global deal with Mouser
Mouser Electronics and Terabee, designers of small, high-performance distance sensors for drone, robotics and IoT applications have agreed a global distribution pact. Mouser is now shipping a variety of Terabee’s TeraRanger sensors. The TeraRanger Evo distance sensors measure a single axis and return distance values in millimeters at high speed.
The time u-blox took a trip to space
For a few seconds, everyone at the SwissTech Convention Center (EPFL) held their breath as the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket ofSpaceflight SSO‑A: SmallSat Express missiontook off towards low Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC‑4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA.The rocket’s payload included aCubeSat nanosatellite designed byAstrocast, a prototype to test the 64‑satellite constellation the Swiss company intends to s...
From 2D to 3D: the way forward for cities under pressure
What might tomorrow’s cities look like? To make predictions of the future is to move on treacherous terrain. That’s OK, let’s be bold. The picture above shows acity’s lower airspace is a regulatory greenfield waiting to be conquered by autonomous services, to the benefit of its residents.
Contactless current sensor features minimum power loss
ROHM has recently announced the availability of a small contactless current sensor, the BM14270MUV-LB. It achieves minimum power loss (no heat generation) in an ultra-compact size, making it suitable for industrial equipment and consumer devices that detect operating conditions via current, including battery-driven drones, solar power systems, and servers in data centres requiring high power.
Intelligent, autonomous and fully wireless underwater drone
French company Notilo Plus, a developer of intelligent, autonomous underwater systems, has announced the global commercial launch of iBubble, a wireless, autonomous and intelligent underwater drone. iBubble can accompany divers for up to an hour and up to 197ft depth, acting as their personal cameraman, enabling superior underwater imaging.
microBUCK regulator delivers up to 75W output power
The power ICs line at New Yorker Electronics has been upgraded by the Vishay Siliconix SiC462 4.5V to 60V Synchronous microBUCK Regulator. The SiC462 is a synchronous buck regulator with integrated high-side and low-side power MOSFETs. It is a high-efficiency buck regulator with a power state capable of supplying a continuous current of 6A at a switching frequency of up to 1MHz.
Drone trainers discover rise in women enrolling on UAV courses
More women are reaching for the stars in 2018 than ever before as drone training experts reveal a dramatic increase in women enrolling on its courses.
Flying AI vacuum cleaner can dust your house
A hovering vacuum cleaner powered by artificial intelligence was among the cutting-edge inventions at the University of Brighton’s Product Design showcase. VacHumme, created by student Tom Harding, is an almost fully automated ‘dusting drone’. It operates via an AI mapping function and is designed to fly around a single room, cleaning every surface it can reach.
Measuring dynamic tilt with an IMU
Why would you want to know the dynamic tilt angle on a vehicle? Consider a classic example of a plane in the clouds. The pilot cannot see the ground, nor can he or she trust their instincts because they will feel a false gravity when the aircraft is turning. This means they need a dynamic tilt sensor which – in an aircraft - is often called a vertical gyro or the artificial horizon. Similar technology is used in automobiles.
Bandpass filter suits UHF comms applications
Availability and full design support capabilities for a new tuneable bandpass filter from NewEdge Signal Solutions have been announced by Richardson RFPD. The SAX270 electronically-tuneable bandpass filter is designed for the extended UHF band in tactical communications applications.
