Video: isolated gate drivers & noise immunity
In power electronics, isolated gate drivers are used to drive IGBT and Power MOSFETs. With the emergence of SiC and GaN, power electronics are operating at higher frequencies to increase system efficiency and reduce system size and costs. The increase in frequency results in higher switching noise or commonly known as common mode transient, dv/dt.
Compare isolated gate drivers and noise immunity
Isolated gate drivers are used to drive power semiconductors, such as IGBTs and power MOSFETS, in inverters, motor drives, UPS, and EV charger. The gate drivers are used to provide galvanic insulation between the control circuits and the high voltages. Watch the video to learn more about the basics of isolated gate drivers and noise immunity.
Partnership reduces system costs for inverters
The installed photovoltaic capacity is growing rapidly worldwide. Photovoltaic systems with a total output of around 600GW now supply clean and cost-effective electricity – replacing around 600 medium-sized coal-fired power plants. SMA Solar Technology (SMA) and Infineon Technologies have supported this growth trend with the latest generation of innovative silicon carbide (SiC)-based solar inverters.
IoT enhances radon-monitoring on Mount Etna
In a novel example of the broad applications of LoRaWAN Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, Kerlink, a specialist in solutions dedicated to the IoT, has announced its Wirnet gateway is powering a radon-monitoring sensing project on Europe’s most active volcano, Mount Etna.
SiC FETs with RDS(on) deliver increased efficiency
UnitedSiC, a manufacturer of silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors, is introducing four new SiC FETs, with RDS(ON) levels as low as 7mohms, delivering unprecedented levels of performance and efficiency for use in high-power applications such as electric vehicle (EV) inverters, high-powered DC/DC converters, high-current battery chargers and solid-state circuit breakers.
Silicon Carbide wafer supply agreement announced
ROHM and STMicroelectronics have announced the signing of a multi-year Silicon Carbide (SiC) wafers supply agreement with SiCrystal, a ROHM group company having a top share of SiC wafers in Europe. The agreement governs the supply of over 120 million dollars of advanced 150mm silicon carbide wafers by SiCrystal to STMicroelectronics during this period of demand ramp-up for silicon carbide power devices.
Accelerate the design cycles of SiC-based power converters
Littelfuse has announced the Gate Drive Evaluation Platform (GDEV). The new evaluation platform helps designers evaluate SiC MOSFETs, SiC Schottky diodes, and other peripheral components like gate driver circuitry, so that they can better understand how silicon carbide technologies will behave in converter applications under continuous operating conditions.
Flow sensors expanded with thermal flow switch
SICK has extended its portfolio of industrial instruments with the SICK T-Easic FTS, a thermal flow switch designed as an easy, cost-saving answer to detecting liquid flow in pipes, for example in pumps, machine tool lubrication or industrial cleaning systems.
Three technologies changing the agricultural industry
The Rusmoloko Farms, in the Russian district of Ramensky, is equipping its dairy cows with virtual reality (VR) goggles, showing the animals green, sunny meadows in an effort to boost their mood and increase milk production. At the moment, VR for cows is just an isolated experiment, but there are other technologies that are rapidly gaining traction in the agricultural industry. Here, Neil Ballinger, Head of EMEA Sales at automation parts supplie...
