eCall test solution makes Berlin debut
“eCall Days” in Berlin (September 23-24) is Germany's largest conference for the eCall system that will be introduced in motor vehicles throughout Europe in 2018. All key players from the European Commission, politics and industry will meet there. Rohde & Schwarz will take the opportunity to show its eCall/ERA-Glonass test solution for the first time in Berlin.
Precision frequency product provides reliable performance
Microsemi has announced a high performance precise time and frequency product, the SyncSystem 4380A Master Timing Reference, for use in metrology, defence, comms, aerospace and other applications where performance and reliability are vital. The device is suited for applications requiring accurate synchronisation as well as repeatable timing performance which demand the highest levels of reliability.
Wearables chip saves power & improves location experience
Broadcom has announced a GNSS chip for IoT and wearable devices. The advanced chip enables devices such as fitness bands to deliver pinpoint location while consuming minimal power and in some cases can eliminate the need for a separate MCU.
Spirent Partners with Nottingham Scientific Limited for Robust Positioning, Navigation and Timing
Spirent Communications has entered into a strategic partnership with Nottingham Scientific Limited (NSL) to enable the detection, characterization and regeneration of threats to Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver systems.
How to integrate multiple antennas into vehicles
Antenova has built a model design for On Board Devices (OBDs) and vehicle telematics, which the company will be showing at CTIA Supermobility 2015. The OBD design uses three antennas inside an OBD housing to link to a satellite (GNSS), Bluetooth and a terrestrial network, whilst obtaining optimum performance from all three antennas simultaneously. The design also features a small GNSS RF module to fix location, which Antenova is showing for the f...
Lime & Airbus develop robust Galileo GNSS receiver
Partly funded by Innovate UK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board), Lime Microsystems and Airbus D&S have announced joint development of robust GNSS products. Airbus D&S is using Lime’s Field Programmable RF (FPRF) transceiver technology to develop arobust timing receiver that exploits signals from the new Galileo satellite navigation constellation.
'World's smallest' Mediatek-based Multi-GNSS module
GlobalTop Technology has launched FireFly X1, claimed to be the smallest Mediatek-based Multi-GNSS module in the world. With an ultra-compact size of 9.0x9.5x2.1mm, it’s one of the smallest Multi-GNSS modules in the industry.
Production tester accelerates GNSS solutions
A speed-optimised production tester - the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator from Rohde & Schwarz, is equipped with the R&S SMBV-P101 package. During production testing of modules and receivers for satellite-based communications, the basic GNSS signal reception and the connection between the antenna and GNSS chipset need to be checked.
LTE module offers unrivalled carrier independence
u-blox has announced TOBY-L201, the world’s first 4G LTE Cat 4 module with 3G WCDMA fall-back, which works on AT&T and Verizon networks. TOBY-L201 switches automatically or via AT command to AT&T’s or Verizon’s network, without the need to load firmware. Depending on which carrier’s SIM card is inserted, TOBY-L201 recognises the carrier and starts on that carrier’s network.
Video gaming meets drones
Acal BFi have designed-in the Nano Hornet module from OriginGPS into the world’s first smartphone controlled gaming drone line by TobyRich. By working with Acal BFi to integrate the Nano Hornet, TobyRich was able to design a smaller, sleeker form factor for its innovative drones while extending the range and enhancing directional capabilities.
