Packaging keeps its cool
Packaging innovation leads to vastly improved cooling and thermal management, says Stefan Preimel, concept and application engineer, Infineon Technologies
Driving leading-edge SiC/GaN power converters
To take advantage of the new power switch technologies, a complete ecosystem of ICs must be implemented in converter design, starting with the gate driver, says Stefano Gallinaro, Analog Devices and Imad Owaineh, Watt&Well
Ultra-soft IGBT freewheeling diodes offer low losses
Infineon Technologies Bipolar GmbH & Co. KG has launched a diode family designed for modern IGBT applications: Infineon Prime Soft. This diode features an improved turn-off capability which now rates at 5kA/µs. Prime Soft builds on the IGCT freewheeling diode family which is based on a monolithic silicon design. Typical applications for the diodes are HVDC/FACTs and medium voltage drives using voltage source converters. These applicatio...
Self-illuminating pixels for the latest generation of displays
There are videos on the internet that can make one marvel at technology. For example, a smartphone is bent around the arm or a thin-film display is rolled in all directions and with almost every diameter. From the user's point of view, this looks fantastic. From a professional point of view, however, the question arises: Is that already possible? At Display Week 2018, scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP will b...
Laser diodes for material processing & laser cutting applications
The low noise LD15CHA, the newest addition to the Wavelength laser diode driver line, offers modulation bandwidth, and power for materials processing, industrial laser cutting, and laser diode bars / stacks. The small laser diode driver delivers 15A output current up to 28V. It meets laser compliance requirements from 3V with a single 5V supply, and upto 28V with an additional 30V power supply.
Powerful UVB LEDs for fluorescence microscopy
LG Innotek has increased the performance of its UV LEDs. At the UVB wavelength of 305nm, LASER COMPONENTS has offered LEDs that achieve 110mW from a single emitter. They are used in the 6060 single-chip series as well as the 6868 series, which features four diodes integrated into one housing. Together they deliver outputs of 300mW and more. LEDs with the same power levels are also available for the UVC wavelength 278nm.
Component shortage caused by continued market boom
The heat shows no sign of abating from the component distribution market as a market boom has caused a shortage.
Transformers pre-approved for push-pull drivers save time
A782100 series of transformers has been announced by Murata. The product has beendesigned specifically for use with the Peregrine (pSemi) PE22100 push-pull DC/DC converter driver ICs. The combination of driver IC and transformer allows easy implementation of an isolated DC/DC converter rated up to 1W, typically used for powering the secondary side of an isolated data interface such as RS232, RS485 or CAN bus.
Midas Displays adds Easby to distribution network
Midas Displays has strengthened its UK and European sales channel with the appointment of Yorkshire-based Easby Electronics as a franchised distributor. Easby Electronics will market, promote and supply Midas Displays' complete portfolio of display products, value-added services and solutions.
TVS diodes save board space
The LTKAK Series TVS Diodes from Littelfuse is now available in Europe through TTI. Offering superior clamping characteristics compared to standard silicon avalanche diodes, the LTKAK Series features Littelfuse Foldbak technology, which provides a clamping voltage lower than avalanche voltage but above rated working voltage.
