HEVC IC offers real time 4K encoding on a single chip
Socionext has started sampling the world’s first HEVC/H.265 - compatible encoder IC, the MB86M31, along with an evaluation board, the MB86M31-EVB, and SDK for drivers and applications. The device is capable of real-time encoding of 4K/p60 video with the latest video compression technology. HEVC achieves the transmission of realistic 4K video at half the cost of the preceding H.264 technology without a loss of quality.

Drone applications expanded with the addition of cameras, says report
Most drones are, and will remain, electric, as detailed in the recently released IDTechEx report, “Electric Drones: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) 2015-2025”. Cameras of an increasing variety of types will be in more and more drones and they will become more versatile, lighter weight, more robust and lower cost as they are used for many purposes beyond navigation and surveillance.
Temperature & capacitance extensions added to EDLC range
Panasonic has improved and extended its portfolio of Gold Cap Electric Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC). Versions have been released which can operate at lower temperatures, suiting industrial applications, while other devices have been increased in capacitance.Stacked coin-type Gold Caps now feature an operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C.
Transceiver chip enables millimetre-wave radar systems
At the 2015 International Solid State Circuits Conference, imec and Panasonic presented a transceiver chip for phase-modulated continuous-wave radar at 79GHz. This device demonstrates the potential of downscaled CMOS for low-cost millimetre-wave radar systems that can be used for accurate presence and motion detection.
Thermopile array sensor uses IR to detect temperature
Panasonic Automotive & Industrial has launched its first SMT thermopile array sensor. Grid-EYE features 64 thermopile elements in an 8x8 grid format that detect temperatures and temperature gradientsby infrared radiation, providing thermal images. It is possible to detect multiple people and identify positions and direction of movement.
