Temperature & capacitance extensions added to EDLC range
Panasonic has improved and extended its portfolio of Gold Cap Electric Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC). Versions have been released which can operate at lower temperatures, suiting industrial applications, while other devices have been increased in capacitance.Stacked coin-type Gold Caps now feature an operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C.
Transceiver chip enables millimetre-wave radar systems
At the 2015 International Solid State Circuits Conference, imec and Panasonic presented a transceiver chip for phase-modulated continuous-wave radar at 79GHz. This device demonstrates the potential of downscaled CMOS for low-cost millimetre-wave radar systems that can be used for accurate presence and motion detection.
Thermopile array sensor uses IR to detect temperature
Panasonic Automotive & Industrial has launched its first SMT thermopile array sensor. Grid-EYE features 64 thermopile elements in an 8x8 grid format that detect temperatures and temperature gradientsby infrared radiation, providing thermal images. It is possible to detect multiple people and identify positions and direction of movement.
NFC chips simplify tag design
RS Components is looking to make Near Field Communication (NFC) applications easier to design and more accessible by introducing the Panasonic NFC tag platform, which comprises a versatile set of NFC ICs and easy-to-use development tools. The NFC chips simplify tag design by integrating RF, signal-conditioning and host interface circuitry, as well as non-volatile 4Kbit FeRAM memory, in a compact surface-mount package.
Nozzles target NPM equipment
A complete line of nozzles for the Panasonic NPM machines are now available from Count On Tools. These nozzle designs enable highly accurate, repeatable, optimised chip placement. The NPM series equipment optimises the latest technologies into a lean modular solution for changing, expanding and evolving electronic assembly needs.

Large EVs are a bellwether for the future of cars
A report published by IDTechEx, which analyses the off-road, on-road, water and airborne EVs, is particularly useful for benchmarking new technology for EVs.The report, tilted, ‘Electric Vehicle Forecasts, Trends and Opportunities 2015-2025’, discusses how the types of energy harvesting used in EVs do not first appear in cars.
Acquire Digital to exhibit multi-touch application at ISE
AtISE(Integrated Systems Europe) 2015, which takes place from 10th to 12th February, in Amsterdam, Acquire Digital will showcase its latest multi-touch application, alongside hardware partners, including Panasonic and Sony.
The choice between STTMRAM/MRAM & RRAM will be made by 2017
According to Yole Développement, the technological choice between STTMRAM/MRAM and RRAM will be made in the next two years. In its report, titled 'Emerging Non Volatile Memory (NVM) Technology & Market Trends', the company describes why and how emerging NVM technologies will be increasingly used in industrial and transportation, enterprise storage, wearables, mobiles devices, mass storage and MCU smart cards.
Wireless-industry scientific papers to be presented at conference
At this year’s International Solid State Circuits Conference, imec and Holst Centre will present eight scientific papers covering results on ultra-low power design for wireless broadband communication, wireless sensor networks and organic electronics. Executives and scientists from imec and Holst Centre are prominently present as technology experts throughout the conference’s forums, evening sessions and panels, and as session chairs.
