STGAP: Isolated gate drivers for MOSFETs and IGBTs
STMicroelectronics offers the STGAP series of isolated gate drivers for MOSFETs and IGBTs that provide galvanic isolation between the input section, which connects to the control part of the system, and the MOSFET or IGBT being driven.
Is there a new growth opportunity for conductive pastes?
Power electronics is a growing market thanks to the electrification of many industries including the automotive industry, as outlined in the IDTechEx Research report ‘Conductive Ink Markets 2019-2029: Forecasts, Technologies, Players’. The power electronic modulus are also growing in performance.
Four-leaded Kelvin device extends on-resistance range
UnitedSiC has expanded its UF3C FAST series product offering by introducing an additional 1,200V high-performance SiC FET device in a TO-247-4L four-leaded Kelvin Sense discrete package option. The UF3C120150K4S offers a typical on-resistance (RDS(on)) of 150mΩ, bringing the total number of four-leaded FAST Series devices up to six and extending the on-resistance range of the entire series from 30mΩ all the way up to 150mΩ.
Diode's technology leads to lower static losses
Now being shipped by Farnell is the 1200V TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 and emitter-controlled EC7 diode from Infineon. Packaged in the Easy housing, this EasyPIM IGBT7 provides higher power density, lower system cost, and reduced system size. The diode’s technology is based on latest micro-pattern trenches technology and optimised for industrial drive applications which means much lower static losses to meet energy efficiency requirements, softer switc...
Who and what was worth seeing at PCIM 2019?
Power is always an interesting topic as it is a necessity in life, but after visiting my first ever PCIM show this week it has opened my eyes as to how big the automotive power sector is, and how much it is expected to grow.Of course the big players in the automotive industry continue to innovate, but PCIM this year saw more companies starting to become involved in automotive power, whereas before they stuck to the more energy and industrial side...
High-frequency IGBTs boost performance with high-speed tech
It has been announced that the STMicroelectronics HB2 650V IGBT series delivers efficiency and performance gains for medium- and high-speed applications such as PFC converters, welders, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and solar inverters, leveraging ST’s latest Trench Field Stop (TFS) technology. The series also includes automotive-eligible devices meeting AEC-Q101 Rev. D.
Power transistors to hit another sales record after growth bubble ends
Double digit percentage sales growth in power transistors strengthened last year, climbing 14% in 2018 to reach an all time high of $16.3bn after setting the previous record in 2017 with an 11% increase, according to IC Insights’ 2019O-S-D Report - A Market Analysis and Forecast for Optoelectronics, Sensors/Actuators, and Discretes.
Taipei gears up
Steve Rogerson reports from Taipei on how the country is responding to the moves towards autonomous driving.Taiwan has no major car makers, but the high technology island sees the moves towards autonomous driving and connected transportation as an opportunity that it cannot miss. As such, it is applying the skills it has learned over decades in other electronics sectors to the automotive world in a big way.
PCIM Europe – where power is at the core of innovation
This year’s PCIM Europe was attended by a record number of visitors, over 12,000. Over half (54%) were from outside Germany. They came to see over 500 exhibitors and while the subject matter was diverse and wide-ranging, there were some themes that emerged. GaN and SiC jostled for attention at this year’s PCIM Europe, writes Caroline Hayes, alongside current sensor developments designed to accelerate adoption rates for electric vehicl...
Power modules enable flexible electrification of vehicles
In order to support the automotive industry by building up a broad and cost competitive portfolio of hybrid and electric vehicles (xEV), Infineon Technologies is launching new power modules for xEV main inverters. At this year’s PCIM trade fair Infineon will present four new HybridPACK Drive modules optimised for different inverter performance levels between 100 and 200kW.
