Extending asset lifetimes
Financial pressures are forcing many companies to keep old legacy systems going, rather than buying new equipment. In response to this AWS has seen further growth in its dedicated repair centre, where it supports not only its mainstream customers with warranty, repair and overhaul, but also third party repairs.
Fast track control accelerates switching of quantum bits
An international collaboration between physicists at the University of Chicago, Argonne National Laboratory, McGill University, and the University of Konstanz recently demonstrated a framework for faster control of a quantum bit.First published online inNature Physics, their experiments on a single electron in a diamond chip could create quantum devices that are less prone to errors when operated at high speeds.
Modular IoT gateway solution for smart cities and smart industries
NXP Semiconductors unveiled a Modular IoT Gateway Solution for large node networks (LNNs) with pre-integrated, tested and RF certified support for a wide array of wireless communications protocols including Thread,ZigBee and Wi-Fi. This range of capability allows developers to easily build out gateways based on this solution, using their choice of wireless protocols for end-to-end wireless communications in LNN configurations with supporting clou...

Helix Device Cloud showcases its versatility at IDF 2016
At the Intel Developer Conference this week, we announced the latest version of our IoT Device Management Platform, Helix Device Cloud. To mark the occasion, several groups created real-life use case demonstrations of Device Cloud in action. The wide range of examples allowed viewers to really relate it to their own IoT development and envision how they could best leverage Device Cloud to take advantage of the potential value made possible by bet...
AWS Electronics ups the voltage ante
AWS Electronics Group has added a1000 ft² high voltage production capability to its plant in Newcastle Under Lyme. The new space is purely for work that requires up to 50kV and, according to the company, currents of up to 180A can also be accommodated.
Technology could separate gas from water
When oil and gas are extracted from the earth, water also comes to the surface. Known as produced water, it contains naturally occurring hydrocarbons, salt, bacteria, radioactive material and other compounds, as well as any chemical additives used to ease extraction. Each year, the U.S. alone generates more than 21 billion barrels (approximately 900 billion gallons) of produced water from oil and gas extraction, including hydraulic fracturing.
