Rise in battery innovation key to clean energy transition
Improving the capacity to store electricity is playing a key role in the transition to clean energy technologies. Between 2005 and 2018, patenting activity in batteries and other electricity storage technologies grew at an average annual rate of 14% worldwide, four times faster than the average of all technology fields, according to a joint study published today by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).
High current conductive polymer electrolytic capacitors
Panasonic Industry Europe has introduced the new surface-mount type ZF series of Conductive Polymer Hybrid Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors. Being able to endure high temperatures of 150°C for up to 1.000 hours, the new capacitors benefit from a high withstand voltage of 25 to 63V and a low leakage current of (0.01 CV or 3µA). The nominal capacitance range is 33 to 270µF.
ML will be ubiquitous across chemical companies
In the future, all materials scientists and chemists will have access to Machine Learning (ML) tools to enhance their R&D. Seamlessly integrating these underlying operations will not happen quickly, but overlooking the developments in materials informatics will lead to a loss of any competitive advantage.
Bluetooth low energy module in stock at Farnell
The PAN1780 Bluetooth Low Energy Module from Panasonic is now being shipped by distributor Farnell.
Preventative maintenance a key benefit of industry 4.0
Equipment down-time is a major issue for any manufacturer. For that reason, most will maintain a schedule of maintenance inspections and tests based on elapsed time or usage to determine the health of each machine. Though it is effective, organising maintenance according to a strict schedule is inefficient. Cliff Ortmeyer, Global Head of Technical Marketing at Farnell, explain the importance of preventative maintenance.
Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform is 5G and AI-enabled
Qualcomm Technologies has announced the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform. Building on the Qualcomm Robotics RB3 platform and its broad adoption in a wide array of robotics and drone products available today, the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform is comprised of an extensive set of hardware, software and development tools.
BLE 5.0 module enables copious data transmission
An ultra-low-power Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 module that enables the transmission of large amounts of data in connectionless environments is in stock at Mouser Electronics.
Solid-state batteries to create $6bn market by 2030
Solid-state batteries keep on attracting tremendous attention and investment with the maturing technologies and closeness to mass production. Even with the influence of COVID-19, the potential market size is expected to grow to over $6bn by 2030, according to IDTechEx's report 'Solid-State and Polymer Batteries 2020-2030: Technology, Patents, Forecasts, Players'.
Robust resistor brings lower TCR and higher precision
Even though applications are getting more digital with every device generation and a lot of functions are defined by the implemented software, nothing in the world would work without precise high-quality passive components like robust resistors – neither in the automotive, nor in the industrial or housing sector.
NXP secure edge-connected i.MX RT crossover processors
NXP Semiconductors has announced that its WiFi and WiFi/Bluetooth combos and i.MX RT MCU crossover processors are now supported within its MCUXpresso software, which dramatically simplifies product development.
