Inside EMW 2013
Sally Ward-Foxton reports on the latest developments in the world of RF test from European Microwave Week in Nuremberg.
Freedom is good
With continued development, this article takes a look at various test platforms and where they now appear to be headed, and why. By David Owen, Business Development Manager, with Pickering Interfaces USA, & Bob Stasonis, Marketing Manager, with Pickering Interfaces USA.
Tips to make accurate rise/fall time measurements for radar signals
Output power measurement is one of the basic measurements for a radar system as it determines the performance, range and resolution of the radar system. The most common output power measurements are pulse power, pulse repetition interval, pulse width, and rise and fall times. By: Sook Hua Wong, Product Planner, Agilent Technologies
High-performance custom filters using CST MICROWAVE STUDIO
Through virtual prototyping, Test Equipment Plus has designed custom filter solutions for their line of portable spectrum analyzers – Signal Hound. TEP have used CST MICROWAVE STUDIO to become competitive in the market, with design improvements such as the replacement of discrete filter components with buried printed filters.
New Modelithics Models for low-profile MLO inductors
AVX has introduced a new range of Modelithics Models for its 0402 tight tolerance, high current, and high Q multilayer organic inductors. Fully integrated with a range of software applications (including Agilent ADS, Genesys, and AWR Microwave Office), the latest additions to AVX’s Modelithics Component Model Library are part-value sensitive and substrate scalable. This allows design engineers to accurately simulate the performance of its H...
Miniature PIN switch covers 1.0 to 18.0 GHz frequency range
AtlanTecRF have today announced two models of ultra wide band miniature PIN switch, each covering the entire 1.0 to 18.0 GHz frequency range. Both absorptive types, the SPST and SP2T switches deliver in excess of 70dB isolation while maintaining VSWR better than 2.0:1.
Spectrum analyser bandwidth extended to 165MHz
Tektronix says its real-time spectrum analysers (RTSAs) now offer up to 165MHz acquisition bandwidth to support demanding applications such as high-margin, high accuracy WLAN 802.11ac characterisation and troubleshooting. Also upgraded are the real-time performance and signal detection improvements of its RSA5000 and SPECMON series of RTSAs.
Universities transform wearable radio communications
Working alongside several industry partners, researchers at Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University have developed a prototype garment incorporating an embroidered antenna. Ideally suited for search and rescue applications, the newly designed antenna is fully flexible, lightweight and water resistant.
MACOM reaches Definitive Agreement to acquire Mindspeed Technologies
MACOM has announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Mindspeed Technologies. The transaction value is approximately $272 million in diluted equity value, or $246 million net of Mindspeed's cash position of approximately $26 million as of September 27, 2013. MACOM expects to finance the acquisition through a combination of cash on hand and its existing undrawn revolving credit facility. The boards of both companies hav...
