Beer and chocolates on offer at Embedded World
SILICA will be focussing on connectivity and automation and will be hosting seven demonstrations at Embedded World 2015 in Nuremberg (Feb 24-26) dismissing the norm of glass case displays and wall-mounted videos. So visitors will be able to watch the Maxim beer mug factory (though no mention of whether beer is included) and a chance to order different chocolates via NFC tags.
In the driving seat
The use of MCUs in automotive applications is growing, but Steve Rogerson found there were differences in how the chip makers see the market evolving.
Universal debug engine centre stage at Embedded World
PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme’s Universal Debug Engine (UDE) 4.4 will make an Embedded World 2015 debut in Nuremberg next month (Feb 24-26). The UDE 4.4 features significantly enhanced debugging procedures for complex system-on-chips (SoCs) with heterogeneous controller cores, optimised data visualisation in system-level debugging as well as dedicated support of a wide range of state-of-the-art 32-bit multicore SoCs of different m...
LED lighting shield for Arduino provided flicker free dimming
The new RGB LED Lighting Shield with XMC1202 for Arduino from Infineon Technologies is now available from Farnell element14. It is one of the industry’s first easy-to-use, intelligent lighting solutions compatible with Arduino and the XMC1100 Boot Kit of Infineon. The solution features three independent dimming engines with nine independent Pulse Density Modulated (PDM) channels.
USB token is Google Security Key compatible
Allowing users to reduce the complexity of password-based log-on to services, and strengthen protection against unauthorised access, Infineon has released security chips and Fast IDentity Online (FIDO)-Ready authenticator reference designs.
Platforms address emerging IGBT requirements
Designed to improve the performance of high-voltage IGBTs in voltage classes from 1200V up to 6.5kV, two power module platforms have been released by Infineon Technologies. Currently, the power module platforms are suitable for 3.3, 4.5, and 6.5kV IGBTs measuring 100x140x40mm.
Debugging tool optimised for Infineon power ICs
The PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme 4.3.4 version of its Universal Debug Engine (UDE) is an optimised test and debug tool for the new Infineon TLE986x and TLE987x Embedded Power IC series. The Embedded Power family was specifically designed for intelligent motor control in a wide range of automotive applications. The devices come in a standard QFN package with a footprint of only 7 mm x 7 mm.
Arduino shields enable RGB lighting & motor control
Compatible with the Arduino Uno R3, two shields have been announced by Infineon Technologies for RGB lighting and motor control applications. Both shields can be combined with the XMC1100 Boot Kit which is equipped with a 32-bit MCU from the XMC1000 family.
Infineon acquires 9.4% of Schweizer
Infineon Technologies has announced that it will acquire a 9.4% stake in Schweizer Electronic. The relevant contracts were concluded today with both companies agreeing on strict confidentiality regarding the terms.
Timing closure & signoff reduces required ECO iterations
Enabling over 50 successful tapeouts in the nine months since it became generally available, Synopsys' PrimeTime ADV advanced timing closure and signoff solution has been adopted by more than 70 leading semiconductor companies. According to Synopsys, the key to its adoption is ease of integration into existing timing closure flows, fast turnaround time and the ability to reduce timing Engineering Change Order (ECO) iterations on designs.
