STMicroelectronics is showcasing its latest technologies and products for smart driving, smart environments and smart things at electronica China in Hall E2 Booth 2102 at the New International Expo Center, Shanghai, 15th to 17th March 2016.
Stylish fitness tracker features OLED screen
Chipworks definitely has an interest in the latest in wearable technology. So, naturally, when such a big name in the market as Fitbit announced a change of pace with the new, more-stylish Alta fitness tracker, the company was excited to take a look. Contributed by Mandi Gingerich, Julia Elvidge and Jim Morrison of Chipworks.
Low-power electric motors dissipate even less power
Expanding its Intelligent Power Module portfolio, STMicroelectronics has announced the SLLIMM-nano 2nd series, adding higher power levels and new package options that are especially suited to increasing the efficiency and reducing cost. The devices integrate three half-bridge high-voltage gate drivers, six IGBTs and six fast and ultra-soft freewheeling recovery diodes.
Power-conversion ICs target 48V data centre architecture
STMicroelectronics announced a family of power-conversion ICs dedicated to 48V power architectures. To meet ever-growing performance demands, servers and processors have ratcheted up their compute power-and power consumption-with multicore chips. This next-gen power architecture aims to significantly cut wasted power inside data centre servers and meets the requirements of the new 48V architecture announced by Google.
Build, debug & fine-tune STM8 applications for free
STMicroelectronics has extended incentives for designers to choose its popular STM8 MCUs for economical computing tasks in the smart devices that support modern work and life. The latest move by ST, working with Cosmic, means all the software tools that designers need to build, debug, and fine-tune STM8 applications are now available free of charge.
MCU debug technology upgrade speeds development times
J-Link firmware has been introduced by SEGGER for the embedded ST-LINK on STM32 Nucleo, STM32 Discovery and other microcontroller unit (MCU) evaluation boards from STMicroelectronics. The upgrade turns a board’s ST-LINK interface into a fully functional J-Link, which can then be employed to debug the board's application processor.
2015 leading vendors of semiconductors to the OE automotive sector
According to the latest analysis by Semicast Research, NXP was the leading vendor of semiconductors to the OE automotive sector in 2015. Infineon Technologies passed Renesas Electronics to become the second largest vendor, with STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments completing the top five. Semicast estimates that revenues for OE automotive semiconductors totaled $28.2bn in 2015.
Project integrates laser directly on silicon with a modulator
IRT Nanoelec has announced the first co-integration of a III-V/silicon laser and silicon Mach Zehnder modulator demonstrating 25Gbps transmission on a single channel. This transmission rate usually is achieved using an external source, over a 10 km single-mode fiber.
Redefining power conversion efficiency
In order to create new opportunities for power supply designers to achieve greater efficiency in low voltage power supplies for computers, telecom networks, industrial and consumer devices, STMicroelectronics has introduced its latest MDmesh DM2 N-channel Power MOSFET transistors.
