Screening for blood conditions without needle sticks
In the developing world, anemia—a blood condition exacerbated by malnutrition or parasitic disease—is a staggeringly common health problem that often goes undiagnosed. In hospitals everywhere, children and adults with leukemia and other disorders require frequent blood draws to determine if they need blood transfusions. In both cases, doctors are interested in measuring hemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells.
MOSFET enables smaller power conversion systems
Availability and full design support capabilities for a new silicon carbide power MOSFET from Wolfspeed, has been announced by Richardson RFPD. According to Wolfspeed, the C20045170 is claimed to be the industry’s first 1700 V, 45 mΩ SiC MOSFET. It offers high-speed switching with low capacitances, avalanche ruggedness, fast intrinsic diode with low reverse recovery (Qrr), and it is easy to parallel and simple to drive.
Isolated measurement system unveils hidden signals
The IsoV Measurement System previewed this year at the APEC 2016 show is now shipping and available for worldwide delivery to customers. Pricing for the optically isolated measurement system starts at €12,500 / £8,800. The IsoVu platform uses an electro-optic sensor to convert input signals to optical modulation, electrically isolating the device-under-test from a Tektronix oscilloscope.
Sensor could help fight deadly bacterial infections
Scientists have built a sensor that can detect the potentially deadly E.coli bacteria in 15-20 minutes, much faster than traditional lab tests. E.coli can be transmitted in contaminated food and water, posing particular risks to children and the elderly. In the late spring of 2011 a serious outbreak of E.coli bacteria sickened thousands of people in Germany and killed more than 50.
Evaluation kit speeds SiC power converter prototyping
The latest evaluation kit from Wolfspeed is now available from Richardson RFPD. The CRD-5FF0912P includes two of Wolfspeed’s 900V third-generation SiC MOSFETs (the 3M0120090J) in surface mount 7L-D2PAK packages. The board allows easy evaluation of the MOSFET switching waveforms, gate drive circuit performance and protection implementation on a PCB.
Easy and standalone RFID offered in SICK series
A long-range read-write RFID device has been launched by SICK, which delivers compact, standalone RFID identification and traceability without requiring complex programming or separate external antennae. The RFU650 offers a rugged and affordable device with a typical sensing range of up to five metres that can distinguish accurately between transponder tags on assembly parts, goods or packages, even when they are moving in opposite directions.
SiC power module boasts ultra-fast switching operation
A new half-bridge SiC power module from Wolfspeed, a Cree Company, is available with full design support from distributor Richardson RFPD. The CAS325M12HM2 power module is configured in a half-bridge topology comprised of seven 1.2 kV 25 mΩ C2M SiC MOSFETs and six 1.2 kV 50 A Z-Rec Schottky diodes per switch position.
1,700V SiC MOSFET is optimised for industrial applications
ROHM has announced a new 1,700V SiC MOSFET optimised for industrial applications, including manufacturing equipment and high-voltage general-purpose inverters.
DC/DC converter powers gate drives for optimal efficiency
Suited for driving high and low-side gate circuits such as those using IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs for optimal efficiency, a series of 1W DC/DC converter series has been announced by Murata Power Solutions. The compact MGJ1 series features high isolation characteristics, up to 5.2kVDC, popular nominal output voltage combinations of +15 / -5, +15 / -9 or +19 / -5VDC. The series also offers a choice of +5, +12 or +24VDC input.
DC/DC converters feature power sharing
Two new series of DC/DC converters from RECOM Power are available at Richardson RFPD with full design support. The RKZ-xx2005D and RxxP22005D series are especially designed for SiC MOSFET driver applications with harsh environmental requirements. The new DC/DC converters are available with input voltages of 5, 12, 15 or 24VDC, with two asymmetric outputs of +20VDC and -5VDC.
