Industry collaboration to deliver open source reference software
Announcing the launch of the Linaro IoT and Embedded (LITE) Segment Group, Linaro are working in collaboration with industry leaders. LITE will focus on delivering end to end open source reference software for more secure connected products, ranging from sensors and connected controllers to smart devices and gateways, for the industrial and consumer markets.
Wide creepage transistors offer superior arcing resistance
STMicroelectronics has introduced a portfolio of TO-220 FullPAK (TO-220FP) wide creepage power transistors, including the world’s first 1,500V super-junction MOSFET in this new important arcing-resistant package.
200mA LDO regulator suits portable & flexible electronics
Supplied in a minuscule 0.47x0.47x0.2mm CSP, a 200mA LDO regulator has been introduced by STMicroelectronics for wearable and portable devices and flexible electronics such as multifunction connected smart cards. The LDBL20’s bumpless STSTAMP package breaks through the minimum I/O-area and height limitation imposed by the diameter of traditional flip-chip solder bumps, enabling unprecedentedly small footprints and low mounted heights.
Testing and debugging environment for automotive applications
At this year's electronica trade show (hall A6, booth A16), PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systeme will be introducing version 4.6 of its UDE (Universal Debug Engine) that provides a testing and debugging environment optimally matched to the comprehensive internal error-checking functions of STMicroelectronics’ current SPC570S family of automotive MCUs based on the 32-bit Power Architecture.
LoRa shields accelerate IoT developments
The SX1276 LoRa ARM mbed-enabled shields from Semtech are now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. These easily programmable tools come pre-installed with editable source code, allowing developers to easily develop Internet of Things (IoT) applications and connect to LoRaWAN gateways. This gives developers the tools necessary to test the capabilities of LoRa radio frequency (RF) technology and create IoT solutions.
Industry 4.0 demoes lined up for electronica 2016
Demonstrations of the latest security, cloud connectivity and power technologies for Industry 4.0 will be showcased by Future Electronics at electronica in Munich (November 8-11). The distributor’s stand will feature pods showing technologies grouped into three themes: Experience Security, Experience Power and Experience the Cloud.
ST acquires ams' NFC & RFID reader assets
STMicroelectronics has acquired ams' assets related to its NFC and RFID reader business. ST has acquired intellectual property, technologies, products and business highly complementary to its secure MCU solutions serving mobile devices, wearables, banking, identification, industrial, automotive and IoT markets. Approximately 50 technical experts from ams have been transferred to ST.
Semiconductors negative in 2016, positive in 2017
Semiconductor companies posted a wide range of results in 2nd quarter 2016. Intel, Micron Technology, STMicroelectronics (ST) and Renesas Electronics all had declines in revenue in 2Q 2016 versus 1Q 2016. Samsung Semiconductor, Qualcomm and SK Hynix had double digit revenue growth. MediaTek posted the strongest growth, up 33% (in Taiwan dollars) driven by smartphones.
Power converter enables SMPS with 5V output voltage
STMicroelectronics has introduced a high-voltage power converter that allows designers to build an ultra-low-consumption, simple and cost-effective SMPS with a 5V output voltage. The converter is tailored to provide the auxiliary supply to MCUs in IoT devices that are permanently connected to the internet or a local network.
Evaluation board helps bring down BoM costs
The STEVAL-ISA175V1 evaluation board from STMicroelectronics (ST) is now availbe from distributor Mouser Electronics. This new evaluation board implements a three-output isolated flyback designed to supply smart meter and power-line communication systems, on a PCB layout that is specifically designed to fit inside an actual meter in the field.
