Supporting 100GbE data transmission over a 550 meter link distance, the MicroPOD and MiniPOD series have been launched by Avago Technologies. A result of a collaboration between Avago and Corning Inc, the embedded optical connectivity series target 100G interconnects for datacenter and enterprise network applications.

The joint solutions enable datacenters and enterprise networks to transition from 10G to 100G Ethernet while supporting a 400m link distance per IEEE 10G Ethernet standards and a 550m link distance using Corning’s PretiumEDGE® Cables with Corning® ClearCurve® OM4 bend-insensitive multimode optical fiber.

“As the data network infrastructure transitions to 100G data speeds to meet high bandwidth demands, the need for long-reach high-density 100G embedded optical connectivity is imperative for modern datacenters and enterprise networks,” said Philip Gadd, vice president and general manager of the Fiber Optics Product Division at Avago. “Together with Corning, we are now able to support a high-density 100G embedded optical link beyond 500 meters.”

“Corning has a long history of developing innovative fiber optic technology resulting in superior bandwidth performance for data centers. We are excited about the release of Avago’s latest series of embedded optical solutions,” said Stuart Hoiness, senior vice president, Enterprise Networks, Corning Optical Communications. “We look forward to future collaboration with Avago and other industry leaders as we create the next generation of optical technologies that will transform data centers – today and tomorrow.”
