Automate the design of next-gen photonic integrated circuits
Enhancing its OptSim modelling capabilities, Synopsys has announced the RSoft OptSim Circuit, an extension of the company's OptSim fibre optic systems modelling tool. Combined, OptSim Circuit and OptSim enables users to automate the design of next-gen single- and multi-stage Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs).
Manufacturers need a comprehensive modelling tool capable of analysing all aspects of a system, including advanced modulation formats supported by next-generation PICs. This will maximise optical communication network performance, minimise costs and reduce time to market. OptSim Circuit can help designers accelerate the design of advanced optical telecommunication systems. When used with OptSim, it delivers a single framework, engine and robust sets of models for studying a range of systems from long-haul optical communications systems to sub-micron photonic circuits.
OptSim Circuit models bidirectional propagation for both optical and electrical signals in PICs and, therefore, can model complex signal interactions such as forward and backward propagating reflections and resonance. Enabling the design of PICs that operate with coupling and feedback of different optical and electrical signal paths, this provides a significant advantage over legacy modelling tools based on unidirectional, end-to-end signal propagation. The modelling tool provides powerful options for data visualisation, plotting and project resource management, allowing designers to organise and reuse PIC layouts quickly and easily.
