Mixed Signal/Analog
The advantages of capacitive vs. optical encoders
In partnership with Ingvar Andermo, CUI Devices has developed a proprietary method of measuring rotational movement by implementing an ASIC to detect changes in the frequency of a signal modulated by capacitive reactance. Used for years as the key technology in digital callipers, it has been applied to position encoding in the form of the AMT series modular encoder.
'Always listening' SoC facilitates voice activation
Designed for popular consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets and wearable devices, the BelaSigna R281 'always listening' voice trigger SoC solution has been introduced by ON Semiconductor. Using an audio pattern-matching algorithm developed by ON Semiconductor, BelaSigna R281 can detect a single, user-trained trigger phrase.
Analogue speaker driver cancels noise effortlessly
ams has announced that the earphones supplied with the Z1 smartphone from ZUK use the AS3415, an analogue speaker driver from ams offering outstanding noise cancellation and very low power consumption. Using advanced analogue semiconductor technology, ams' AS3415 Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) speaker driver provides impressive noise reduction of up to 30dB over a wide audio frequency bandwidth of 3.5kHz.
InventionShare launches the Circuit Seed family
Mr. Keith Taylor, Vice President of Acquisition and Licensing, InventionShare, has announced that research is conclusive on Circuit Seed, a new family of circuit building blocks for processing analogue signals using fully digital components and design flow. This includes a CMOS Field Effect Transistor Structure (CiFET) that is one of several patents filed for this family of inventions.
IC enables low-power & cost-effective headset detection
Integrating a comparator, OR gate and N channel MOSFET into a miniature package, the AZV5001 headset detection IC has been announced by Diodes Incorporated. The device enables the connection of a headset with microphone to be quickly and simply detected in cost- and power-sensitive consumer electronics such as mobile phones, tablet computers and media players.
Wideband transistor is optimised for DC-2.7GHz operation
A wideband transistor optimised for DC-2.7GHz operation has been introduced by M/A-COM Technology Solutions. The NPT2024, which uses MACOM’s proprietary Gallium Nitride on Silicon (GaN on Si) process, is now sampling. The device supports CW, pulsed and linear operation, boasting output levels up to 200W.
EuMW 2015: Jitter attenuator targets base stations
A high-performance clock jitter attenuator designed to support the JESD204B serial interface standard for connecting high-speed data converters and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) operating in base station designs was announced by Analog Devices at European Microwave Week in Paris.
DACs bring microwave capabilities
e2v’s next gen DAC, the EV12DS400, brings an advanced combination of microwave capabilities and multi-Nyquist operation and is now ready for general sampling. The EV12DS400 offers the highest levels of spectral purity, coupled with a vast analogue bandwidth, facilitating new ways to architect challenging RF and microwave systems. It provides design versatility and opens up novel and previously unimagined applications.
A/D converter eyes wide range of applications
A new dual, 14-bit, 500 MSPS analog-to-digital converter from Analog Devices is being shipped by distributor Richardson RFPD with full design support. The AD9684 includes an on-chip buffer and a sample-and-hold circuit designed for low power, small size, and ease of use. The new ADC is specifically designed for sampling wide bandwidth analogue signals.
Inductance-to-digital converter copes with harsh environments
An inductance-to-digital converter (LDC) from Texas Instruments (TI) is a 1.8V to 3.3V, high-resolution data converter designed for short-range, high-speed, contactless sensing of position, rotation, or motion. The LDC1101 provides accurate measurements in both controlled and harsh environments, making it ideal for auotomotive consumer, industrial computer, and communications applications.
