Infineon expands MCU range with PSoC Edge
Infineon Technologies AG has broadened its microcontroller portfolio through the introduction of the PSoC Edge family, which enhances power-efficient machine learning capabilities at the edge.
These MCUs are tailored for responsive computing and control tasks, with hardware-accelerated machine learning delivering refined end-user interaction and awareness in applications.
Key features and offerings
Steve Tateosian, Senior Vice President of Microcontrollers at Infineon, explained: "The PSoC Edge series embodies our extensive expertise in crafting user-centric, powerful MCU systems. It strikes a balance between power and performance to meet AI/ML demands, with comprehensive HMI features and security for modern applications."
PSoC Edge devices feature Arm Cortex-M55 processors, support for Helium DSP, and Arm Ethos-U55 integration, alongside the Cortex-M33 paired with Infineon’s NNLite accelerator. These features make them suitable for "always-on" applications in IoT and industrial sectors. The series boasts substantial internal memory, RRAM, and secure, high-speed external memory interfaces, ensuring adaptability for complex intelligent systems.
Further augmenting the capabilities of the existing PSoC line, PSoC Edge MCUs offer enhanced support for graphics, audio, voice, and vision applications, allowing for easy migration and upgrades from current designs.
Development support and ecosystem
Infineon's ModusToolbox software platform, known for its comprehensive development tools and resources, backs the PSoC Edge family. Integration with Imagimob Studio for Edge AI development enables streamlined machine learning model deployment.
The PSoC Edge family is currently available to early access customers.
