CoreHW and Presto Engineering have announced the successful development of the first enhanced low-power radio frequency (RF) 2.4GHz front-end module, packaged in an ultra-small and thin wafer-scale form.

This RF front-end integrated circuit (IC) is designed for the 2.4GHz frequency band, supporting communications standards such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, and the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The IC includes a high-efficiency power amplifier (PA) in the transmit path and a low noise amplifier (LNA) in the receive path. Housed in a compact package measuring just 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.5mm with a 16-pin CSP BGA and 0.5mm ball pitch, the module requires no external matching components. Additionally, it features a chip antenna and antenna diversity, enhancing overall performance. This fully integrated solution is ideally suited for printed circuit board (PCB) modules used in applications such as wireless audio, trackers, smart home devices, access points/gateways, asset management, and industrial automation.

Antti Rauhala, Vice President of Engineering at CoreHW, commented on the collaboration: “Efficient collaboration with Presto Engineering has led to the successful volume production of our first RF switch component (CHW1010). We are now targeting the full qualification of the next-generation RF front-end module (FEM) components in Q4 2024. The seamless partnership with Presto has once again demonstrated their technical expertise in industrialising our IC components for high-volume production.”

Cedric Mayor, CEO of Presto Engineering, also expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration: “The CHW3021 represents our second successful project with CoreHW, highlighting the value of long-term partnerships in maximising strengths in ASIC development. With our extensive experience in industrialising and producing high-volume RF chipsets, we are well-prepared to apply industry best practices to CoreHW’s projects. This collaboration ensures a smooth product release to the market.”

Both CoreHW and Presto Engineering are excited to continue their successful partnership in future ASIC projects, as part of a long-term engagement programme that aims to push the boundaries of telecommunications technology.
