The rise of autonomous device networks
The IoT for industries is transforming both the consumer and the business landscape, offering tremendous opportunities for agile suppliers. However, businesses founded on connectivity across devices, geographies, applications and services require diversity in business models. Each industry and company will need a customised approach to connectivity based on its unique requirement.
Wireless IoT connectivity: making sense of the protocols
Organisations designing devices and systems for the Internet of Things (IoT) today have many choices over the wireless protocols they will use to facilitate communication with the cloud. Simon Duggleby, Product Marketing Manager, Electronics Division, RS Components explains.
IAR reports IoT interest for beneficial loyalty programme
IAR Systems reports that the interest for the company’s Volume License Program is growing fast, especially thanks to new and upcoming companies within the IoT. As members of the Volume License Program, customers save both time and money by reusing their already made investments and standardising their development on IAR Systems’ powerful tools.
LoRa Wireless RF technology selected for IoT sensor platform
Semtech has revealed that Advantech has chosen to use its LoRa technology to enable long-range RF connectivity with the new standardised M2.COM sensor platform.
Could IoT devices really be the next victims for ransomware?
The Internet of Things (IoT) is attracting its fair share of fear, uncertainty and doubt these days. Take for example a recent report from ICIT entitled, ‘Combatting the Ransomware Blitzkreig’. In it, the authors James Scott and Drew Spaniel make the point that, “It is not inconceivable that malware, and ransomware in particular, will eventually target IoT devices.”
IoT collaboration boosts manufacturing
A field trial carried out by Fujitsu, in partnership with Intel, is visualising manufacturing processes at Shimane Fujitsu, which primarily manufactures notebook PCs. The field trial linked the FUJITSU Cloud Service IoT Platform with the Intel IoT Gateway.
Automated multi-vendor, multi-technology data collection system
The latest version of the Connexo MultiSense, multi-vendor, multi-communication technology meter data collection (MDC) system, developed by Elster, has been announced by Honeywell.
Pre-integrated, pre-validated gateways
A full range of IoT gateways have been introduced by Advantech to fulfil an array of application environments. These gateways, powered by Intel IoT Gateway Technology, comprise the ultra-small series UTX-3115, ARK-1123L and ARK-1123H, multiple I/O ARK-2121L, in-vehicle series ARK-2121V and ARK-2151V, outdoor video surveillance series ARK-2121S and ARK-2151S, fleet management series TREK-570 and TREK-572, as well as automation series UNO-1252, UNO...
Solving IIoT security challenges
The Industrial IoT (IIoT), a subset of the IoT evolution, is all the rage within automation companies as they seek to add a high margin software component to their traditional businesses.
LoRa RF technology integrated into LPWAN measuring devices
Semtech has revealed that Zenner will integrate LoRa RF technology into their water, heat, gas, smoke and electricity measuring devices being deployed in LPWANs (Low Power, Wide Area Networks) globally. By using LoRa RF technology and following the LoRaWAN specification, which is standardised by the LoRa Alliance, Zenner will give its customers the ability to easily integrate its platforms into existing LoRaWAN networks.
