PLC reference designs are G3-PLC certified
A long-time executive member of the alliance, Texas Instruments' PLC (Power Line Communication) reference designs have been certified by the G3-PLC Alliance. This allows smart grid technology providers to be assured of compliance and interoperability when they choose TI’s system solution for G3-PLC applications.
Wireless modules selected for smart grid solutions
2G, 3G, and 4G LTE cellular modules, developed by Sierra, have been selected by Itron for worldwide use within the OpenWay smart grid solutions. Using the Wireless AirPrime modules, M2M solution providers can develop applications that are scalable and secure. To reduce deployment costs and accelerate application development, the modules are supported by fully integrated software and cloud-based services.
Gateway simplifies installation into IoT environments
Designed for the IoT, the ICO300 industrial gateway has been released by Axiomtek. Powered by the 22nm E3815 (1.46GHz) Intel Atom processor, the gateway features a din-rail, fanless and rugged design. The industrial gateway, which supports up to 4GB DDR3L system memory, is offered with wireless support, four RS-232/422/485 ports, two isolated Gigabit Ethernet ports and two high-speed USB 2.0 ports.
Processor core eases integration of IoT devices
Designed for low-power, connected intelligent devices, the APS23 processor core has been introduced by Cortus. Based on the company's v2 instruction set, the core improves efficiency, eases integration and lowers the total cost of ownership. The v2 instruction set reduces the size of the system's instruction memory, allowing the processor core to reduce embedded system power.
IoT design competition is launched
RS Components and LPRS celebrate 25 years of working together with the introduction of an IoT themed design competition. Solving an existing problem or a completely new invention, entries must be concept based around an application for the IoT which uses LPRS’ eRIC transceiver modules and a wireless gateway.
Express Logic Develops X-Ware Platform to Fast-Track ARM-Based IoT Development
Express Logic, Inc has launched X-Ware Platform, target-specific, integrated development software that delivers all X-Ware components (ThreadX, NetX, USBX, FileX, GUIX, and TraceX) pre-ported and fully integrated for use on specific development boards. Recognizing ARM’s market leadership in the IoT space, Express Logic has tailored its initial X-Ware Platform offerings to the ARM developer community. By integrating its high-quality, widely ...
Wearable tech and IoT pave the way for a $300m printed/thin/flexible batteries market by 2024
Form factor is becoming a major driver shaping innovation and transforming the energy storage industry globally. This is fuelled by the emergence of new market categorises such as wearable electronic devices and Internet of Things, which demand thinness and flexibility. These needs add a new force to current prevalent market drivers such as cost reduction and power/energy density increases.
Chip allows total control of the Smart Home
Supporting voice control, motion sensing and the ZRC 2.0 protocol, the GP565 Smart Home radio chip allows the total control of the Smart Home. Available in two versions with 120k or 248k Flash (and 8k or 16k RAM) memory, Green Peak's chip for remote controls is optimised for advanced, yet low cost, ZigBee RF4CE remote controls.
Smart-meter ICs improve billing accuracy
Enabling utility companies to improve billing by accurately measuring down to extremely low power levels, the STPM32, STPM33 and STPM34 ICs have been unveiled by STMicroelectronics. Meters which incorporate these devices will help utilities minimise revenue losses and ensure consistent billing by keeping the meter accuracy down to just a few milliamps - comparable to the current drawn by an LED television in standby.
