FPGAs
FPGAs withstand differential power analysis attacks
Microsemi has announced that its SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs and IGLOO2 FPGAs have passed certification for resistance to Differential Power Analysis (DPA) in the DPA Countermeasure Validation Programme developed by Rambus Cryptography. This allows Microsemi to use the Cryptography Research trademarked “DPA Lock” security logo under license from the organisation in connection with these products.
Rad-hard FPGA dev kit suits high-bandwidth space designs
Microsemi has announced the availability of its RTG4 FPGA Development Kit, the first of its kind to provide space designers with an evaluation and development platform for applications such as data transmission, serial connectivity, bus interface and high-speed designs using Microsemi’s RTG4 high-speed signal processing radiation-tolerant FPGA device.
Digital control improves SoC FPGA efficiency
Altera has announced the signing of a licensing agreement with ZMDI, leveraging ZMDI’s digital power management technology to integrate advanced Multi-Mode Digital Control (MMDC) power capabilities into Enpirion PowerSoC devices. A digital power design team will focus on expanding the control, adaptability and power saving features of Enpirion PowerSoCs to improve the power efficiency of Altera FPGAs and SoCs.
FPGAs power printer's image processing capabilities
Altera has announced that Ricoh Group has chosen Altera Cyclone IV FPGAs to power its recently introduced line of printers, the RICOH SP 3600DN Series. Altera’s Cyclone IV FPGAs power the image processing capability of the RICOH SP 3600 Series printers, helping implement features such as 1200dpi image quality improvements, serial print speeds, and fast print speed.
Debugging & visualisation tool range is enhanced
Concept Engineering has announced major enhancements to the entire Vision product line for designers of analogue, digital, mixed-signal circuits, SoCs and FPGAs. StarVision PRO, RTLvision PRO, GateVision PRO, and SpiceVision PRO are customisable and scriptable debugging and visualisation software tools that help electronic design engineers to easily understand, debug, optimise and document their designs.
FPGA evaluation kit shows soft-core processing capabilities
Altera has announced availability of the 2nd gen Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit (NEEK), which features Altera’s non-volatile MAX 10 FPGA and Nios II soft-core embedded processor. The MAX 10 NEEK is a feature-rich platform that provides a fast and simple way for embedded designers to experience the capabilities of a custom embedded processor in a non-volatile FPGA.
FPGA enables 4G smartphone
Lattice Semiconductor has announced that its iCE40 LM FPGA is integrated in the Huawei P8 flagship smartphone to enable optimal 4G reception. Huawei will continue to use Lattice’s low latency, tunable antenna controller in other devices using its Kirin 930 chipset.
Gigabit Ethernet FPGA module targets medical imaging
A high performance Gigabit Ethernet FPGA module has been introduced by Orange Tree Technologies. Comprising a Gb Ethernet processing engine, Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA, DDR3 memory and general purpose I/O, the ZestET2-NJ is aimed at data acquisition and control applications in markets such as industrial vision, radar, sonar and medical imaging.
AFE connects multiple sensors to MCUs or FPGAs
A highly integrated sensor interface AFE that provides calibration of sensor outputs has been introduced by Exar. The XR10910 offers an onboard 16:1 differential multiplexer, offset correction DAC, programmable gain instrumentation amplifier and voltage reference. This AFE provides 14-bit signal path linearity and is designed to connect multiple bridge sensors to an MCU or FPGA with an embedded ADC.
Evaluation board accelerates FPGA designs
The ECP5 Versa Evaluation Board from Lattice Semiconductor is now in stock at Mouser Electronics. Part of the ECP5 Versa Development Kit, the ECP5 Versa Evaluation Board enables developers to experiment with the features of Lattice Semiconductor’s ECP5 Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), including PCI Express, Gigabit Ethernet, DDR3, and generic SERDES performance.
