The target platform MSC Q7-MB-EP2 from MSC Vertriebs GmbH supports the development of innovative POI/POS and Digital Signage applications based on a compact power saving MSC Qseven module.
The embedded platform MSC Q7-MB-EP2 differs from the recently presented baseboard MSC Q7-MB-EP1 for the industrial automation market by the implemented Digital Visual Interface (DVI). DVI supports the digital transmission of video data without signal conversion loss and replaces the analogue VGA port. Today, DVI is the standard interface for large-scale signage displays with high resolution. Depending on the computer-on-module up to 1920 x 1080 pixels will be supported. For the integration of an industry display, the embedded platform provides a LVDS and a backlight interface. The board integrates an 4/5 wired touch controller for the connection of a touchscreen.

Compared to the automation platform, the MSC Q7-MB-EP2 offers two independent Gbit Ethernet interfaces to easily connect additional subsystems and to support different system levels (Uplink/Downlink). A selection of important interfaces defined in the Qseven™ specification, 4 x external USB 2.0, RS-232, HD audio and 2 x SATA, are available for the connection of different equipments. System extensions are possible without connector adaptions via the Mini PCI Express™ slot or the integrated MMC/SD card slot. MSC offers boot support for MMC/SD cards under Linux.

The standard Qseven™ module MSC Q7-US15W of 70 x 70mm is mounted via a proven MXM connection on the baseboard bottom side. The processor is mounted directly on the box for a better heat dissipation. The size of the flexible target platform MSC Q7-MB-EP2 is 148 x 102mm.

The wide power supply range of the baseboard of 10 - 28VDC supports different display technologies. Huge displays need 24 V power supply, smaller ones 12 V only.
