For applications where space is at a premium, but high performance EMI filtering is just as critical, Murata has announced the SMD BNX022, the latest addition to its comprehensive EMIFIL range of noise suppression products.
Measuring just 9.1 x 12.1mm with a 3.1mm profile, the BNX022 EMI filter is considerably smaller than the conventional BNX002-01 part, thereby significantly reducing the board mounting area required. This high-performance block-type surface mount filter is designed for use in DC power lines. It effectively prevents unwanted reflections and external noise from entering the equipment circuitry and power lines by grounding all the high frequency components which make up the noise.

The SMD BNX022 has a comparable (10A) high current rating and low Rdc (0.43milliohm typical). With a rated voltage of 50V dc, this compact EMI filter features a high insertion loss characteristic (35dB minimum) over a wide 1MHz to 1GHz frequency range. The device also operates over a wider temperature range than the conventional filter, at –40 to 125oC.

Murata’s advanced production techniques have ensured that the new, fully RoHS compliant, block type BNX022 filters cost less than existing devices. Manufactured in Japan, the parts are already in mass production with a delivery lead time of around 10 weeks.

The devices are expected to find widespread application in a range of products requiring noise suppression of the DC power line, and particularly in appliances such as plasma and LCD based TV screens, games and entertainment consoles as well as PCs and peripherals.
