UK government invests £40 million in 5G testbed
The UK’s Digital Secretary, Jeremy Wright, announced that £40 million is to be invested in 5G testbed and trial projects across UK industry as part of Government plans to improve mobile connectivity. The funding was announced at the 5G World Conference as part of London Tech Week. The recent launch of 5G in the UK puts the country ahead of much of Europe.
Solution to accelerate mmWave 5G wireless network infrastructure
Industry specialist in RF and Microwave technology and system design for 5G infrastructure, Analog Devices (ADI), has introduced a new solution for millimetre wave (mmWave) 5G with the highest available level of integration to reduce design requirements and complexity in the next generation of cellular network infrastructure.
Industry demands 5G revolution but barriers remain
Industrial companies are embracing 5G connectivity as a primary enabler of digital transformation, and plan to implement the technology within two years of it reaching the market. This is spurring interest in private licenses, with nearly half of large industrial companies (47%) intending to apply, according to the latest findings from the Capgemini Research Institute.
5G, autonomous systems and the revenge of real time and determinism!
If you tend to look at the technology landscape through the lens of a cloud approach, you probably believe that infinite compute, storage and bandwidth are available to you thanks to the cloud. In terms of scalability and elasticity, IT and most of the popular PaaS have largely demonstrated that this is possible - just buy more compute, storage, services from your favorite cloud platform. 5G standalone testing capability for network technology
It has been announced by Viavi Solutions that the VIAVI TeraVM 5G testing solution supports standalone (SA) specifications according to the latest 3GPP standards, in addition to non-standalone (NSA) mode. With the capability to reliably emulate 5G RAN and core network elements, TeraVM enables end-to-end, wraparound testing of gNodeB base stations (gNBs) and 5G core network functions, accelerating 5G development and deployment.
Integrated GaAs technology enables single chip GaAs solutions for 5G
Pure-play compound semiconductor foundry, WIN Semiconductors, has announced the commercial release of its high integration mmWave GaAs platform, PIH1-10. Optimised for 5G front-ends, the PIH1-10 technology combines an advanced 100GHz ƒt enhancement-mode pHEMT with monolithic PIN and Schottky diodes to provide best in class mmWave performance for all front-end functions.
Ireland’s national 5G test centre opens at Maynooth University
Maynooth University has opened Ireland’s National 5G Test Centre. The facility called RadioSpace, which represents an investment of €1.5m, is the country’s first large-scale facility for the research and testing of radio and wireless technologies needed for 5G and the future of Internet of Things.
Test suite ensures 3GPP 5G new radio compliance
The Modulation Distortion Analysis test suite from Keysight Technologies has enabled Qorvo to fully characterise 5G mmWave front end module (FEM) performance in production test. It was used to measure wideband modulated signals and ensure full 3GPP 5G new radio (NR) compliance on all front-end technology up to 43GHz.
5G NR device certification accelerated
Keysight Technologies says its 5G conformance toolset was first to submit 5G new radio (NR) non-standalone (NSA) radio frequency test cases for PTCRB validation approval in frequency range 2 (FR2), as well as for 5G NR standalone (SA) protocol test cases in frequency range 1 (FR1), accelerating market introduction of 5G NR mobile devices.
A new approach to make cryptocurrency safer
The collaboration between Wirex and Elliptic has been strengthened in order to reduce the risk of cryptocurrency fraud and money laundering. The new remit solidifies the relationship between the two companies as Wirex becomes Elliptic’s first partner to proactively contribute data on fraudulent accounts.
