NEC Corporation has announced the successful transmission of live 8K video using 5G at an international tennis tournament recently held in Paris, France. This demonstration was carried out in cooperation with France's largest television station, France Televisions, and 8K broadcasting equipment manufacturers.

In a move that accelerates the development path to 5G for network equipment providers, Altran announced that its pre-integrated 5G RAN framework will now be used by Shenzhen Fu Hua Ke (FHK), a subsidiary of Foxconn Industry Internet (FII),  which develops the 5G wireless and edge computing technologies with an emphasis on the applications in IIoT systems both inside and outside Foxconn.

To enable the large increase in wireless data transfer needed for the new 5G wireless standard, spectrum in the millimeter wave range will be needed. There is simply not enough available spectrum in the sub 6GHz range.
