Qorvo delivers superior Ku-Band SATCOM performance

Qorvo has announced the release of three new MMIC power amplifiers specifically designed for Ku-Band satellite communications terminals.

These latest additions aim to enhance performance and efficiency in satellite uplink systems, catering to the increasing demand for high-speed data communications in defence and aerospace applications. The amplifier family offers output power ranging from 8 to 55W, providing flexibility to meet specific power requirements.

Product highlights

QPA1314: operating in the 13.75 to 14.5GHz range, this high-power MMIC amplifier delivers a saturated output power of 55W and a linear power of 20W with 25 dBc third-order intermodulation distortion products. It features a 15 x 15mm bolt-down configuration with a copper base, ensuring superior thermal performance and reliability. With a large signal gain of 22.5 dB and 30% power-added efficiency, the QPA1314 is ideal for both commercial and defence satellite communication and radar applications.

QPA0016: designed for applications requiring 15W of output power, this amplifier combines high efficiency with a compact 7.5 x 5mm SMT package, making it well-suited for various satcom terminal designs.

QPA0015: delivering 8W of power in a 7 x 4.5mm SMT package, this amplifier is perfect for high-throughput ground and mobile terminals, offering an optimal balance of power, size, and efficiency.

Features and benefits

Wide frequency range: the QPA1314, QPA0016, and QPA0015 amplifiers primarily operate in the 13.75 to 14.5GHz band, with extended frequency coverage from 12.75 to 15.35GHz. This broad frequency range ensures versatile and flexible operation, enabling seamless communication across various satellite and terrestrial systems.

High efficiency: these amplifiers offer up to 12% higher power-added efficiency, enhancing overall performance and reducing power consumption in satellite communication systems.

Compact packaging: available in various package sizes, including both bolt-down and surface-mount options, these amplifiers ensure easy integration into both existing and new terminal designs, supporting traditional and innovative ground terminal applications.

Enhanced thermal management: the QPA1314’s copper base, along with the compact designs of the QPA0016 and QPA0015, provide superior thermal performance, ensuring reliability and longevity in demanding environments.
