PSMA has announced the availability to its members of an e-learning tutorial on the basics of nanotechnology and what is happening in the field. The focus of the tutorial is for technical and marketing people involved in the power sources industry who have heard of nanotechnology but have not had any exposure to it, or as a refresher of the basics for those who are somewhat familiar with the technology. The tutorial highlights domestic and global activities, links to hands-on websites, and includes a glossary of basic nanotechnology vocabulary.
The e-learning tutorial, entitled PSMA Nano100 is offered exclusively and free of charge through the PSMA website. The course contains four separate sections, each followed by a quiz designed to highlight the main points in that section. A final quiz is provided covering all of the materials presented. People who successfully complete the final quiz will receive a Certificate of Completion in recognition of their achievement. Finally, there are two appendices which include a vocabulary summary and links to a number of websites for those interested in digging deeper in specific areas.

Anthony F. Laviano, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Nanotechnology Center at Loyola Marymount University, provided the content for this important course. According to Dr. Laviano, The impact of nanotechnology on future power supply design will be significant. PSMA is providing a great service to its membership by producing this course.

Dr. Laviano is also overseeing a Technical Forum on Nanotechnology which is now available on the PSMA website under Technology Forums. Its uniqueness is the Commentary and Resources and the Questions Answered sections. The Commentary and Resources section will provide timely literature and articles gleaned through review of the technical and trade literature or submitted by members. The section will also include educational items to increase members’ understanding of nanotechnology for application and use. The Questions Answered section will allow members to submit questions and have answers posted for the benefit of all members.

PSMA wishes to acknowledge and thank Michael Rice, President of Aerolearn, an e-learning provider, who has graciously provided the application program for this valuable tutorial.
