Utilising emulated current mode Constant On-Time (COT) control, the 10A XR79110 and 15A XR79115 single output, synchronous step-down power modules have been released by Exar. In a single die, the devices integrate power converters including MOSFETs, inductors and internal input and output capacitors.

Capable of converting from common input voltages such as 5, 12 and 19V, the modules are particularly versatile. While providing high line and load regulation performance, the emulated current mode COT control provides a faster transient response than conventional COT control loops. Removing the need for loop compensation components, the control loop enables operation with ceramic output capacitors.

With 0.1% line regulation and 1% output accuracy over full temperature range, the output voltage can be set from 0.6 to 18V. For efficient sequencing, safe operation and light load operation, the modules are provided with a number of supervisory and protection features.

The XR79110 and XR79115 power modules are offered in 10x10x4 and 12x12x4mm QFN packages, respectively. Exar will be exhibiting the devices at A6.169 at electronica 2014, from 11th to 14th November 2014 in Munich.

“These devices extend Exar’s existing power module family to high-current single channel solutions for various end applications,” commented James Lougheed, Vice President, Power Management Products, Exar. “These modules use a QFN based package technology to provide superior thermal performance and manufacturability all in the smallest footprint on the market. Additionally, access to the QFN package pins facilitates accurate measurements and board debugging.”

The RoHS compliant and green/halogen free modules will be available from 11th November 2014 and priced at $8.95 (XR79110) and $10.95 (XR79115) each in 1,000 unit quantities.
