LED driver ICs have flicker-free control
Preparing for smart lighting, Infineon introduces the XDPL8220 LED driver IC. Primary side control saves extra components, says the company, reducing cost while increasing reliability.
The two-stage architecture is claimed to ‘significantly’ ease the implementation of flicker standards due to be introduced, by eliminating the low frequency variation from the mains supply and guaranteeing a stable output. Aiming at high energy efficiency, the low stand-by power facilitates permanent operation of the electronic control gear (ECG). Standby power is less than 70mW, which reduces power consumption in the non-active mode while still reacting to external events or user requests.
The IC’s digital core’s control algorithms provide the possibility to realise lighting for constant current or constant voltage mode in the same circuit.
