Infineon sets new standard for enhanced power density and efficiency
Infineon Technologies is propelling motor drive applications into the future with its newly unveiled OptiMOS 6 200V MOSFET product line.
Tailored for performance in electric mobility solutions like e-scooters, micro-electric vehicles (EVs), and electric forklifts, this portfolio sets new standards in reducing conduction losses and enhancing switching efficiency. The advancements in these MOSFETs lead to decreased electromagnetic interference (EMI) and switching losses, benefitting a wide array of applications from servers and telecoms to energy storage systems (ESS), audio equipment, and solar technology. Furthermore, its broad safe operating area (SOA) combined with an industry-leading low R DS(on), positions it as the ideal solution for static switching uses, including battery management systems. The introduction of the OptiMOS 6 200 V family marks a milestone in Infineon’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of power density, efficiency, and system reliability for the advantage of its customers.
The OptiMOS 6 200 V series advances beyond its predecessor, the OptiMOS 3, with improvements including a 42% reduction in R DS(on), facilitating lower conduction losses and higher output power. In terms of diode behaviour, this series achieves a more than threefold increase in softness and an up to 89% decrease in Q rr(typ), significantly enhancing switching and EMI performance. Additionally, upgrades in parasitic capacitance linearity (C oss and C rss) minimise oscillation and voltage overshoot during switching. Enhancements such as a tighter V GS(th) spread and lower transconductance support effective MOSFET paralleling and current sharing, leading to even temperature distribution and a minimised need for paralleling MOSFETs.
The new OptiMOS 6 200 V lineup boasts an improved SOA and is classified as MSL 1 per J-STD-020, meeting RoHS guidelines and being lead-free, in line with current industry standards.
