V-TEK has introduced the TM-4500 manual taping machine, an ideal solution to help manage part inventories and increase purchasing efficiency. Bulk parts received in tubes are taped and reeled at a rate of up to 6000 units per hour (UPH), depending upon shape and size, an increase of 30% over previous solutions. Typical applications include low- and medium-volume manufacturing, where purchasing full reels of components can be uneconomic, and taping programmed parts prior to pick-and-place. In the UK, France and Eastern Europe, the TM-4500 is available from Adaptsys.
The TM-4500 features an innovative design that eliminates the feeder shuttle and parts nest that are required on traditional systems. Eliminating the feeder shuttle enables a greater throughput, whilst the jam rate is reduced by removing the need for a parts nest. The new design also optimizes the movement of parts in the feeder, improving part singulation.

The TM-4500 is ideal for environments with a high mix of components, as the new feeder features universal and adjustable tooling for all parts and therefore no requirement for part nests or additional tooling. Packages including SOICs, SOJs, and PLCCs are all handled easily, and the simpler tooling and configuration also reduces the changeover time, further increasing efficiency.

All tape widths from 8mm to 72mm are supported, and both pressure seal adhesive (PSA) and heat seal cover tapes can be used. The TM-4500 offers independently controlled seal pressure and temperature for each side of the cover tape for the best possible seal.

The machine features an easy to use operator interface capable of storing custom job parameters. Conditions such as empty pocket, part present, part jammed and heat sealer temperature high/low are detected automatically. The system also supports part rotation of +/- 90 or 180 degrees.
