AVX’s low profile, high capacitance PulseCap™ tantalum capacitors boost transmitter power in solid state drives and wireless pulse applications
AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and connectors, has developed a new range of high capacitance PulseCap™ tantalum capacitors that feature a low profile. The PulseCap tantalum capacitors are designed for applications that require bulk capacitance to boost transmitter power, such as solid state drives (SSDs), PCMCIA/USB wireless express cards, smart meters, GPS transmitters and GSM high-speed wireless data handling.
Two PulseCap devices are RoHS compatible and capable of withstanding a soldering profile of 3x reflow at 260˚C. Operating temperature range is -55˚C to +125˚C. “PulseCap, our new addition to the AVX broad tantalum capacitor family, is answering demand for high capacitance devices in a wide range of upcoming applications. The fast wireless data handling in applications like GPS transmitters, GSM communications, Smart Meters, and energy back up for solid state disc in power disruption state are the typical circuits that require capacitance between 1mF to 10mF for safe operation. In contrast to other large case size, large capacitance devices, PulseCaps are true surface mount devices capable of withstanding lead-free reflow process assembly. They also save more space on a PCB by offering excellent capacitance volumetric efficiency in low profile cases,” said Dan Lane, marketing manager at AVX.
