Ampleon demos wideband system solution at IMS 2016
Ampleon has announced that it will demonstrate a wideband system solution at IMS 2016 that uses Xilinx’s Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) IP with Xilinx All Programmable SoC and MPSoC technology.
DPD and PA efficiency improvements are closely related, because PAs with higher efficiencies tend to be less linear and more difficult to pre-correct. Advanced pre-distortion systems are needed to recover the wanted linearity. The advent of wide-band and multiband systems poses additional challenges to the pre-distortion system, because of the increased signal bandwidth that needs to be processed. While Ampleon develops solutions for amplifiers able to cope with ever increasing signal bandwidth, Xilinx’s DPD solutions work to linearise them. A close cooperation is needed in order to optimise the full system, PA and linearisation system, using dedicated algorithms and state of the art programmable hardware.
Harpinder Matharu, Senior Product Manager, Communications Business, Xilinx, commented: “Advanced digital pre-distortion algorithms are needed to linearise PAs for wide-band and multi-band applications to achieve desired performance while lowering CAPEX and OPEX. Together at IMS 2016, we will be highlighting high power efficiency for wide signal bandwidth radio applications and demonstrating an advanced digital pre-distortion solution, available on Xilinx 28nm Zynq SoC and UltraScale+ MPSoCs. This will showcase linearising Ampleon’s state of the art PAs consisting of an MMIC Driver BLM8G2327S-25PBG and a 2.5 to 2.7GHz 300W LDMOS asymmetric Doherty power transistor.”
A joint live demonstration of a wideband system (DPD and PA) will be shown during IMS 2016 on the Ampleon booth (#2149).
