The Power Sources Manufacturers Association Packaging Committee is sponsoring an Industry Session at APEC 2013, titled “Power Management,” which will take place Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. Topics will include power management as it applies to cell phones, real-time thermal calculations for processors, “green” data centres and “green” factories, zero-net-energy buildings, the smart grid and, finally, its influence on regulations, incentives and social consciousness.
Power management is a sophisticated art of controlling power flow: when it is used, for what objective, and with what priority. Whether it is extending battery life in a cell phone, preventing overheating in a processor or controlling megawatts in the Grid, effective power management is essential in modern equipment.

This Industry Session on power management compares and contrasts the objectives and techniques of power management in a variety of settings of increasing power, from the smallest applications to the largest. The session presenters include industry and research experts from TI, AMD, Emerson Network Power, Delta Products Group, Emerge Alliance, Anagenesis and power electronics design consultant Doug McIlvoy.

Session Chair Edward Herbert states that “The power management session will not only be very informative but will also provide an opportunity for attendees to interact with other professionals who are active in designs that require effective power management. I encourage people to register for APEC 2013, make plans to attend the Industry Session on Power Management and to consider participating in the other PSMA sponsored meetings during the week.”

PSMA is a non-profit professional organization with the objective of enhancing the stature and reputation of its members and their products, and improving their technological power sources knowledge. Its aim is to educate the electronics industry, academia, government and industry communities as to the applications and importance of all types of power sources and conversion devices.
