Exar Releases Latest Addition to its PowerBloxTM Line of High Voltage, High Current Step Down Converters
Exar Corporation (Nasdaq:EXAR) unveiled today the XRP7664, a new synchronous Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) step down converter with a maximum load current of two Amps and operating input voltage of up to 18V. This device is the latest addition to Exar’s industry acclaimed PowerBlox family of high-voltage, high-current step-down regulators.
“TOptimised for a 12V input voltage rail, yet equally capable of operating from the popular 5V rail, the XRP7664 addresses the needs for smaller footprint and substantial savings in cost sensitive applications. These include audio-video equipment such as set-top boxes, telecom, computing peripherals and more generally distributed point of load conversions.
Key Product Features
Reaching up to 93% efficiency in a compact “green” SOIC package, the XRP7664 operates at a fixed 340kHz switching frequency allowing for small external components. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.925V, with 3% accuracy, via two external resistors, which can be achieved from any single input voltage from 4.75V to 18V. Design flexibility of any point-of-load supply with the XRP7664 is further enhanced with the availability of a dedicated enable function and programmable soft start. Built-in current limit, output over voltage and thermal shutdown protection provide the XRP7664 with fail-safe operations.
Power Management Products
Highly reliable, accurate, power management is a critical part of any technology system. Exar has a broad array of high-performance and industry-proven power management solutions including handset and lighting controls, power conversion, and standard linear devices.
Packages, Availability and Additional Information
The XRP7664 is available now in volume quantities and offered in a RoHS compliant, “green” halogen free 8-pin SOIC package.
