Martin Ziehbunner, CEO of Essemtec AG, was awarded the most important Swiss business prize on Friday. The title “Entrepreneur Of The Year“ in the industry category was conferred by Ernst & Young, paying tribute to his entrepreneurial work. Martin Ziehbrunner leads his company Essemtec AG even through times of crisis with innovative entrepreneurial vision, and actions that buck the cycle. The company with headquarters in Aesch, Switzerland, specialises in manufacturing production equipment for high tech markets such as electronics, the solar industry and medical device manufacturing.
With the title ”Entrepreneur of the Year“, the most important Swiss prize for entrepreneurs, Ernst & Young recognises Martin Ziehbrunner’s entrepreneurial work: together with his father, he founded the family enterprise 18 years ago and made it into a leading global provider of high tech machines.

Ernst & Young has been conferring the coveted title every year since 1997. The award ceremony took place on Friday, October 23rd on the Novartis campus in Basel, Switzerland. A jury of business and industry leaders chose Martin Ziehbrunner from among 50 nominees as this year's winner in the industry category.

With his positive attitude, inventiveness and an intuition for niches in the market, Martin Ziehbrunner is able to foster his staff’s motivation, implement innovations and make use of new opportunities. Despite adverse circumstances in this year, Martin Ziehbrunner was able to increase his company’s global market position, expand existing markets, improve existing products and drive the development of new machines.

“I am proud of the award, but am also aware that it takes a very strong team to achieve something like this. And I am aware that I sometimes make excessive demands on this team with my ideas...“, says Martin Ziehbrunner with a twinkle in his eye. And one expects nothing else from an Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.
